Job summary

Hitachi Energy invites engineers to lead primary electromechanical design for AIS and GIS substations at 69kV–765kV. You’ll drive engineering across the full lifecycle, coordinating civil, electrical, and project teams while developing robust design documents.

Applicants should have 3+ years in electromechanical engineering, proficiency with NEC/IEEE standards, and BIM/Revit skills; PE license preferred. Travel up to 20% is required, with eligibility to work in the United States.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical/mechanical engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of electromechanical engineering experience.
  • Proficiency in single-line diagrams, layout, and detailed design for various bus configurations.
  • Knowledge in substation design calculations, including grounding, short-circuit forces, cable ampacity, cable and conduit schedules.
  • Comprehensive understanding of NEC, ANSI/IEEE standards, and HV AIS/GIS substation technologies.
  • Background in EPC project environments.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% domestically and internationally.
  • Must have valid work authorization permitting employment with Hitachi Energy in the United States.
  • Proficient in BIM / Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) and Revit for 3D modeling.
  • Possesses a Professional Engineering (PE) license or the ability to obtain one.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Primary engineering activities across the full lifecycle of AIS and GIS projects from 69kV to 765kV.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and external partners.
  • Serve as the primary technical contact for Electromechanical Engineering.
  • Drive innovation and cost-effective solutions in proposals.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and contract standards.
  • Support installation and construction phases.
  • Evaluate risks and implement mitigation strategies with Project manager Engineering.
  • Promote continuous improvement and process optimization.
  • Develop base and detailed design documents and drawings based on customer requirements.
  • Drive the completion of all engineering activities on projects.
  • Create work plans and cost estimates, ensuring quality deliverables.

Job description

Join Hitachi Energy and help deliver critical substation infrastructure that supports the reliability, safety, and performance of the power grid. In this role, you will Manage Primary Engineering (Electromechanical) activities across the full lifecycle of Air-Insulated Substation (AIS) and Gas-Insulated Substation (GIS) projects ranging from 69kV to 765kV substation.

You will work on a wide range of primary engineering activities, including single line diagram, layout, elevation, grounding, associated calculations, cable engineering, etc. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, customers, and installation team, you will help develop practical and cost-effective solutions for complex projects while supporting successful project execution from design through construction and commissioning. Your work will contribute directly to dependable grid operation, project quality, and continuous improvement initiatives while providing opportunities to expand your technical expertise across advanced substation technologies.

Your background

  • Comprehensive understanding of NEC, ANSI/IEEE standards, and highvoltage airinsulated and gasinsulated substation technologies.
  • Background in EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) project environments.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% both domestically and internationally.
  • Must have valid work authorization permitting employment with Hitachi Energy in the United States.
  • Proficient in BIM / Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) and Revit for 3D modeling.
  • Possesses a Professional Engineering (PE) license or the ability to obtain one.
