Job summary

Hubbard Construction Company in Florida seeks a Project Superintendent to lead on-site safety and production for highway, bridge and site development projects. You will coordinate client reps, inspectors, subcontractors and Hubbard personnel, plan scheduling, materials, and field direction.

The role requires 5–7 years of relevant experience, strong communication, and the ability to manage crews, budgets and safety. A high school diploma is preferred; this is not an entry-level position.

Qualifications

  • Requires demonstrable experience as a Project Superintendent.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • 5–7 years of industry experience, with emphasis on roads, highways, and bridges.
  • Must understand work directions and communicate effectively with management and fellow employees.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the project team by providing input on deliverables and work breakdown structures.
  • Provide leadership to create organizational structure and ensure execution, quality, and cost.
  • Evaluate execution for contract, schedule, and cost impacts; advise on status and risks.
  • Monitor safety orientations and coach for improvement.
  • Monitor crew structure and wage compliance.
  • Review cost and man-hour budgets for installation and plan resources.
  • Monitor daily MOT and subcontractor safety issues.
  • Ensure effective communication among client reps, inspectors, subcontractors and Hubbard personnel.

General Description.


Provides overall on-site leadership and management on a construction project site as it relates to Safety and Production. The Superintendent is considered the Company's representative and main point of contact on the construction site. The Superintendent handles the flow of communication between Client's on-site representatives, on-site inspectors, subcontractors, craft employees, and Hubbard personnel. The Superintendent plans, coordinates, and supervises onsite functions including scheduling, material control, and day-to-day direction of field personnel.


Key Duties.



  • Assists the project team by providing input to identify key success factors, timing of design and procurement deliverables, and establishing common work breakdown structures.

  • Provides leadership to cause the creation of organizational structure and processes required to fully execute the requirements of services and is responsible for the execution of the work, quality, subcontractor performance, and construction cost.

  • Evaluates execution for compliance to contract, design data, schedule, cost budgets, and quality, advising the project team of status, issues, impacts, risk, and cost influence factors on "to go" scope.

  • Monitors the implementation of safety orientations, safety indoctrinations, provides coaching for improvement.

  • Monitors crews for organizational structure, sizing, crew mix ratios, and wage compliance.

  • Reviews and monitors cost and man-hour budget for installation process and develops a staff, facilities, equipment, and tool requirement plan.

  • Monitor daily M.O.T. of project.

  • Monitor daily subcontractor safety complaints.

Education and Experience. This position typically is not an entry-level job.



  • Requires demonstrable previous experience as a Project Superintendent

  • A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred.

  • Must be able to understand work directions and communicate effectively with management and fellow employees.

  • Must be able to understand work directions and communicate effectively with job site supervisors and fellow employees.

  • Five (5) to Seven (7) years or more of industry related experience is required for this position, with an emphasis on roads, highways, and bridges.



Physical Demands. The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by a Superintendent - Project to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.



  • Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day. Employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time, and to stoop, bend, and crouch as required to perform Key Duties.

  • Work is often performed at heights up to 60 feet, requiring the employee to climb ladders, scaffolds and stair towers, often with narrow steps and passageways.

  • Frequently work with hands extended overhead, sometimes in conjunction with the operation of hand power tools.

  • Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 50-90 pounds personally, and up to 150 pounds with assistance.

  • Manual dexterity to hand-carry generators, lumber and other construction materials, forms, power tools, and hand tools.

  • Capable of operating concrete vibrators for extended periods of time.

  • Physical dexterity to pour, grade and finish concrete, involving stretching, proper placement of legs, and use of arms and hands in repetitive motions.

  • Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment.

  • Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.

  • Capable of being certified to enter confined spaces, including climbing into and out of excavations, using ladders or crawling, as required.

  • Sufficient skill and visual acuity, under varying degrees of light, darkness, and weather conditions, to provide direction and flagging for operators of cranes with rated capacities of up to 300 tons.

  • Capable of safely and productively operating a man-lift.

  • Ability to maintain balance while working on water craft or other surfaces.

  • Must be able to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment safely.



Work Environment. The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those that a Superintendent - Project encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.



  • Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.

  • Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust that is typically associated with a construction project.

  • Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.

  • Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on construction sites such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel and ready mixed concrete.
