Job description

Performs responsible work coordinating and supervising the Community Supervision Group Assignment Project (GAP). The Project is designed to provide placement of youths assigned to community service work by the Judges of the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Courts and Intake Officers. Responsible for closely supervising a small group of youth assigned to a work group at specific work sites. All work sites meet the Code of Virginia requirements and are either governmental agencies or non-profit organizations.

This position is seasonal as most work is conducted in parks, the community, and outside in general. Requires working weekends in approximately 8 - 10-hour shifts per week.

Supervises youths ordered to perform community service work in a manner that will ensure compliance with rules and regulations of locations used and with all State and Federal laws.

Monitors work performed by youths for compliance with minimum requirements of the Community Supervision Program (Project Insight).

Maintains strict confidentiality concerning youths served and their records.

Notifies Project Insight Program Manager if a youth is absent or performance is unacceptable.

Prepare evaluation when work is complete.

Maintains activity records/hours worked and provides weekly reports to the Program Manager.

Assists the Program Manager with providing guidance and feedback to the youths as needed.

Graduation from high school supplemented by additional college level course work; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Some background experience in working with young people is preferred.

Must be able to work a flexible schedule that may vary from week to week.

Requires a valid driver’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.

This job is contingent upon successful completion of pre-employment checks to include driving record, criminal history and background checks.

Knowledge of counseling procedures and techniques with socially and emotionally maladjusted youths.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and effectively convey information to youths in a group setting, and to professional staff.

Ability to exercise sound judgment and resourcefulness in meeting difficult non-routine problems and situations, and ability to plan and carry out work effectively.

Effective organizational skills.

Ability to work independently.

Ability to establish and maintain courteous and effective working relationships with other employees, assigned youths and their parents, and the public.

Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including, copiers, calculators, pagers, etc. Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle.
