Job summary

Schnabel Engineering’s dam design group in Greensboro, North Carolina, is seeking a Senior Dam Safety Engineer to support our growing business. We are looking for a motivated candidate with attention to detail, a passion to continue to develop as a professional, and a desire to help lead a strong team.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited Civil/Structural Engineering degree (Master’s preferred).
• 8–15+ years in Geotechnical, Structural Engineering or Water Resources.
• Professional Engineering license is required for this role.
• Experience with tunnels, dams, or large heavy civil projects preferred.
• Ability to pass background and pre-employment checks.

Responsibilities

• Develops and maintains relationship-oriented clients to provide a source of work for the firm.
• Assists in negotiating service area contracts and large engineering contracts.
• Responds to RFPs and qualifications presentations with business development staff.
• Manages contracts, time sheets, invoices, collections, and reporting.
• Traveling periodically to job sites will be required.
• Manages projects through investigation, design, and construction.
• Mentors junior engineers according to experience level.

Job Responsibilities

• Develops and maintain a group of relationship-oriented clients that provide a continuous source of work for the firm.
• Assists in negotiation of service area contracts and large engineering contracts for the firm.
• Works with business development and branch staff to effectively respond to requests for proposals or presentation of qualifications in other forums.
• Performs management duties related to obtaining signed contracts, verification of time sheets, reviewing and approving invoices, contacting clients with regard to collections of outstanding accounts and informing appropriate internal authorities regarding collections problems.
• Periodic travel will be required.
• Manage projects through investigation, design, and construction.
• Manage and mentor junior engineers, commensurate with experience level.

Required Skills/Experience

• Bachelor’s degree (Master’s Degree preferred) in Civil/Structural Engineering, from an ABET-accredited intuition.
• 8-15+ years of relevant work experience in Geotechnical, Structural Engineering or Water Resources is required.
• A Professional Engineering license.
• Construction management experience on large projects involving tunnels, dams, or other heavy civil components, with increasing level of responsibility.
• A strong work ethic and the desire to perform professionally at a high level.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and a positive attitude.

• Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record and credit check.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment screening.

The compensation range for a Project/Senior Engineer is between $135,000 - $215,000. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors. We remain committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation to all employees, regardless of their location.
