Job summary

Logan Industries International in Texas is seeking a Project Quality Engineer to coordinate with inspection, testing and QA to ensure compliance with customer requirements, standards and welding procedures. You will monitor weld quality, review router packages, assist NDE, and generate ITPs for projects.

The role requires ASNT Level II visual weld inspection certification, at least five years of fabrication experience in pressure vessel/HEX industries, and proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Qualifications

  • ASNT Level II visual weld inspection certification required.
  • At least five years fabrication experience in the pressure vessel/HEX industry.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (3+ years).
  • Experience coordinating quality systems in manufacturing (3+ years).
  • Experience in traceability, inspection techniques, SPC, TQM, CM, MRB preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with inspection, testing, and QA to ensure compliance with customer requirements and standards.
  • Review Weld Shop Router Packages and release for projects; verify drawings.
  • Assist NDE Technician with oversight.
  • Generate ITPs and ensure project requirements are met.
  • Conduct final acceptance inspections of welds.
  • Support QHSE Director with quality standards and documentation.
  • Provide status reports to Quality Management Team.
  • Oversee welding process quality throughout production.
  • Perform pre-weld inspections of base and consumables.
  • Handle NCRs and weld repair follow-ups.

Job description

In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating with inspection, testing and quality assurance operations to insure compliance with customer requirements, industry standards and specifications, quality processes and procedures with respect to fabrication and welding. As a Project Quality Engineer, you will be expected to monitor compliance for fabrication performing dimensional and visual inspections of welds. A Quality Engineer plans and conducts activities concerned with the quality control and quality assurance of industrial processes, materials, and products. Successful Quality Engineers are self-motivated and work effectively in team or individual situations; and have excellent communication skills and can handle multiple projects and activities simultaneously.

RESPONSIBILTIES
  • Ensure welding processes, procedural instructions, evaluations, inspection processes, etc. are held to customer and code requirements of all fabrication performed.
  • Perform Weld Shop Router Package review and preparation for assigned projects; approving for release. Review components documentation for compliance with drawing requirements.
  • Assist NDE Technician with NDE oversight and liaison.
  • Generate ITP’s for review and acceptance for assigned projects.Monitor and ensure all requirements for assign projects meets ITP requirements.
  • Review new projects and generate inspection record forms according to the requirements by the project and router package for welding and fabrication.
  • NCR generation and processing, especially for welding and fabrication issues and weld repairs.
  • Perform assigned supplier assessments and qualifications for special processes.
  • Assists receiving inspection of welding consumables and filler materials and ensures traceability is maintained throughout the system, and ensure the consumables are stored properly until use. Review of MTR’s for compliance for raw materials and traceability process for Raw Materials.
  • Assists the QHSE Director with the implementation, interpretation, and maintenance of Company quality assurance standards for welding and fabrication.
  • Provides Quality Management Team with status reports for internal control on quality issues concerning fabrication processes and procedures.
  • Perform pre-weld Inspection of base and consumable materials, correct cutting methods, joint positions, welder settings and even things like clamp placement and alignment are correct.
  • Monitor the welding process throughout production to make sure that everything proceeds smoothly and that everyone continues to follow the expectations of the standard.
  • Conduct and coordinates final acceptance inspections of welds.
  • Performs quality engineering reviews of design documentation for compliance with stated requirements, including vendor and company quality records
  • Product and Process Improvement Projects
  • Assist QHSE Director in technical document creation and implementation.
  • Recommends revision of specifications when indicated
  • All other duties as assigned
SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
  • Possess the knowledge of welding processes, methods, equipment, and applicable welding standards (AWS and ASME).
  • Demonstrated advance use of various types of weld inspection tools.
  • Ability to interpret manufacturing drawings, schematics, and Geometrical Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Be able understand and comprehend quality system procedures, work instructions, and process mapping.
  • Understand ISO 9001 and API Q1 standard requirements
  • Demonstrate good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to train, mentor, and coach a team on Quality and Safety best practices.
  • Proficient English reading level to understand technical terminology used within the company;
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.
  • Requires analytical knowledge; ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret and enforce an extensive variety of legal and regulatory publications.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and assignments.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum ASNT Level II certification for visual weld inspection
  • Minimum five years knowledge of fabrication within the pressure vessel/HEX industry
  • Three-year minimum experience using Microsoft Office applications
  • Three years of quality system coordination or supervision in a manufacturing environment required
  • Experience in traceability, inspection techniques, statistical process control, total quality management, configuration management, manufacturing and Material Review Boards strongly preferred.

The salary range will be dependent on experience and can be discussed during active interviews. This will be an hourly non-exempt position.
