Project Manager (Water/Wastewater)
Location: US-NC-Raleigh
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee a portfolio of water and wastewater projects, coordinating multiple subconsultants, contractors, vendors, and suppliers.
- Develop project scopes and budgets, conduct engineering studies, and prepare technical reports for high‑profile projects.
- Assist practice leaders with project budgets, technical deliverables, QA/QC reviews, technical and price proposals, and client communications.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, supervising at least three to five subordinate supervisors or team leaders.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to project staff, ensuring quality, safety, and client satisfaction.
- Drive projects from planning through completion, maintaining schedules, budgets, and risk mitigation plans.
- Act as the primary client point of contact, addressing concerns and maintaining clear communication.
- Participate in business development: evaluate opportunities, prepare qualification statements, lead proposal teams, and engage with clients and external groups.
- Conduct site visits, gather data, prepare designs, and review field measurements against plans.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations; develop and implement project safety plans.
- Negotiate contract terms, scope, and fees with clients and subconsultants; prepare inter‑practice agreements and subcontract agreements.
- Report monthly on project performance, budgets, utilization, and financial metrics; provide corrective action plans when needed.
- Support marketing efforts by producing project write‑ups and photos for portfolio use.
Leadership & Risk Management
- Develop and communicate the Project Management Plan, outlining objectives, scope, schedule, budget, quality standards, and safety protocols.
- Maintain project schedules, proactively identifying and addressing delays or conflicts.
- Monitor budgets, implement cost‑control measures, and ensure projects remain within financial constraints.
- Identify, assess, and manage risks, developing mitigation strategies and contingency plans.
Training & Compliance
- Mentor staff in training and professional development.
- Ensure compliance with KCI policies and industry best practices.
- Provide input in developing and implementing project‑specific safety plans.
Financial Management & Reporting
- Negotiate contracts and develop project schedules optimizing concurrent tasks.
- Report monthly proposal/business development results to senior leadership.
- Achieve or exceed a 70%–80% utilization target.
- Prepare monthly completion reports, progress reports, and cash‑management statements.
- Set up new projects and provide weekly data updates to senior leadership.
- Seek efficiencies to reduce project costs.
Business Development & Marketing
- Evaluate project opportunities and prepare qualification statements.
- Identify new business opportunities; coordinate and present proposals to clients.
- Participate in project closeouts, producing marketing material.
Technical Oversight & Documentation
- Manage all required technical deliverables in contract scope.
- Conduct site visits, collect data, and prepare design phases for approval.
- Interpret technical documents and make decisions on challenges.
- Maintain knowledge of state and municipal policies and guidelines.
Education and/or Skills Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (AEC Industry) and minimum 3 years of professional experience, or 7 years of equivalent experience.
- Experience in project management with a track record of successful delivery.
- Demonstrated leadership to inspire and motivate teams.
- Excellent organization, time‑management, and prioritization skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Technical knowledge specific to water/wastewater projects.
- Proficiency with project management software and tools.
- Knowledge of industry standards, quality assurance, and safety protocols.
- Problem‑solving skills and ability to implement solutions.
- Negotiation skills for contract and stakeholder management.
- Understanding of accounting principles for budget and resource allocation.
Education and/or Work Experience Preferred
- Master’s Degree in a related field (AEC Industry).
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations Required
- Complete KCI PM Training and Contract Risk Training.
- Pass the PM Board within 6 months of hire.
