Job summary

Black & Veatch is seeking a Project Manager to lead the water solutions business in the Irvine office. You will maintain client relationships with local municipalities, execute projects to meet objectives, and deliver financial success.

The role supports relocation for the right candidate and offers hybrid/work flexibility after onboarding. The position requires 15+ years of program/project management experience in water/wastewater and linear infrastructure, with a PE license preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (criminal/civil background check, drug screen, MVR search) in compliance with laws and regulations.
• PE license preferred for the role and jurisdiction.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage business development efforts, including marketing, strategy development, proposals, client presentations and contracting.
• Oversee project management activities, maintaining client relationships and ensuring project objectives and financial success.
• Execute projects with focus on performance and quality, including budgeting, invoicing and payments; conduct regular performance reviews.
• Manage staff development, mentoring and promotion recommendations; identify and develop new candidates to expand the Black & Veatch team.

The Opportunity

The Project Manager position will be responsible for leadership in the local office for the Black & Veatch water solutions business. In this capacity, you will have the opportunity to maintain client relationships with local municipalities, execute projects effectively to meet clients objectives and deliver financial success.

Key Responsibilities

Business development:

• Leading team efforts for marketing
• Strategy development
• Prospect identification, proposal development, proposal preparation, client presentations, project budgeting and contracting for successful opportunities
• Accountable for new business objectives and for overall project performance

Project management:

• External focus to interact with assigned clients, become involved in client activities and promote Black & Veatch through client and community activities
• Support development of the overall market business plan, market strategies, client engagement strategies and leverage other Black & Veatch technical and management resources to advance Black & Veatch\’s market footprint

Project execution:

• Oversight of engineering manager(s)
• Development of project performance goals
• Accountability for implementation
• Active involvement with internal project team and owner project representatives on project activities
• Perform or assist with the performance and commercial management of projects including budgeting, invoicing, and payments; lead project performance reviews for assigned project(s)

Staff management:

• Team development, mentoring and coaching on performance improvement
• Recommendations for training and promotion of assigned professionals as well as identification and development of new candidates to expand the Black & Veatch team

Management Responsibilities

Acts as a project manager. Among responsibilities is management of a project team. The individual comprising this team may vary by project.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (PE) License
• 15+ years program/project management experience, technical experience and background
• Technical experience in water and wastewater treatment as well as linear infrastructure planning and design: planning & asset management; and other key elements of our client’s diverse water needs.
• Business development and program/project management experience
• Advanced knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards related to assigned engineering discipline

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

Work Environment/Physical Demands
