Job description

Project Manager (Utilities)

Location: Pomona, CA (Hybrid, 2 days on-site)

Duration: 18 month contract

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7am-4pm

Pay: $68-73/hr

We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Project Manager to lead electrical service projects from initiation through completion. This role requires strong coordination, communication, and technical interpretation skills, with responsibility for managing project scope, schedules, financial performance, and stakeholder expectations. The ideal candidate brings extensive project management experience, a solid understanding of electrical service planning and design, and the ability to drive complex, multi-phase projects to successful delivery.

Job Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary owner of assigned projects from initiation through closure.
  • Act as the main point of contact for all internal stakeholders regarding project progress and issues.
  • Manage all phases of the project life cycle ("8 Gates" in alignment with IPSEC methodology).
  • Define and clarify project scope, deliverables, and requirements, including:
    • Feasible project timelines
    • Engineering studies and applicability assessments
    • Number and type of work orders required
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, ensuring timely delivery of designs and approvals.
  • Monitor project performance and identify risks or roadblocks; proactively communicate with stakeholders.
  • Track financial performance, provide cost forecasts, and justify over/under-spend events.
  • Reconcile actual costs with finance records and project budgets.
  • Ensure adherence to applicable policies, regulations, standards, and procedures.
  • Develop and implement solutions for complex project issues, balancing stakeholder needs.
  • Coordinate and schedule:
    • Pre-construction, pre-trench, kick-off, and other site meetings
    • Inspections with project inspectors
    • Construction activities with operations teams
    • Ad-hoc meetings to drive project progress
  • Track and report project status, health (at-risk, on-track, early), customer updates, and completion forecasts.
  • Mentor, train, and develop department staff.
  • Provide timely and clear communication to stakeholders, responding to project status updates or customer inquiries within 24 hours.
Job Qualifications
  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree in Business, STEM, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of combined experience, including at least 5 years in project management and 2 years in electrical utility service planning.
  • At least 2 years of experience in electrical service planning and design.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams), including data manipulation and visualization using formulas, PowerBI, or other analytical tools.
  • Proven ability to analyze technical data and communicate complex plans to non-technical audiences.
