Job summary

RK&K in Baltimore seeks a Transportation Project Manager to lead multi‑modal planning and design projects for the DMV area and beyond. You will mentor engineers, review plans, and coordinate with clients and agencies to deliver high‑quality transportation solutions.

The role requires a BS in Civil Engineering (ABET) and a PE license with 10+ years of civil/transportation experience, plus strong knowledge of design criteria and OpenRoads/MicroStation/InRoads software.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of civil engineering design and/or transportation/highway experience
• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required
• Experience with OpenRoads Designer / MicroStation / InRoads and proficient in Microsoft products
• Knowledge of Federal, State and local design criteria

Responsibilities

• Lead multi‑modal transportation planning and design projects.
• Review and certify engineering plans, models and documents.
• Mentor junior staff on transportation design tasks.
• Direct project staff and sub‑consultants; liaise with clients and agencies.
• Prepare for and facilitate internal and client meetings and approvals.
• Coordinate relationships with clients, consultants, agencies, and staff.

This exceptional opportunity entails spearheading and nurturing a team of exceptionally skilled engineers on a range of current and upcoming multi‑modal transportation planning and design projects across the DMV area, as well as within our broader company portfolio. Essential Functions

• Lead multi‑modal transportation planning and design projects in a dynamic, fast‑paced team‑oriented environment. Transportation projects could include interchanges; highway widening and reconstruction; new streets; intersection improvements; ADA; sidewalks and trails; and facility improvements.
• Review and certify engineering plans, models and documents to meet quality control goals and standards of care
• Analyze and develop interchange alternative studies to meet purpose and need and recommend design solutions
• Mentor junior engineering and technician staff on transportation design tasks
• Strong understanding of multi‑modal transportation design standards, current software and other transportation design manuals, trends and guidelines
• Produce and oversee construction documents, specifications, and construction cost estimates
• Prepare for and facilitate internal and client meetings, presentations and approval of plans
• Direct project staff and sub‑consultants on various projects and assignments
• Serve as liaison between clients and firm
• Coordinate and develop relationships with clients, consultants, government agencies, and project staff
• Support proposal and business development efforts across RK&K

Required Skills and Experience

• Ten (10) + years of experience in civil engineering design and/or transportation/highway engineering
• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license
• Experience using OpenRoads Designer / Microstation / InRoads and strong proficiency in Microsoft Products
• Strong understanding of Federal, State and local design criteria

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Previous experience with Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT), State Highway Administration (SHA), Maryland Transit Administration (MTA), Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) and local municipalities
• Involvement with relevant Professional Societies
