Job Description

WSP is currently searching for a Project Manager – Power & Energy for our Denver, CO office. This position can also be offered remotely from a mutually acceptable location within the United States and must have the ability to travel to a WSP and/or client office for periodic face‑to‑face meetings.

Provides high‑level technical project leadership and guidance with managing the administrative, commercial, and technical components of assigned project(s) or portfolio of projects in accordance with WSP’s core values and the level of project services agreed upon in the contract. Tasks include responsibility for the overall performance of moderate‑size to large, regionally scoped projects and overseeing finances, technical work, client satisfaction, quality, safety, and schedule. Ensures all responsibilities throughout the project lifecycle (proposal, startup and planning, execution, reporting, and closeout) are adhered to, delivered, and audited with a level of quality that meets or exceeds corporate standards for safety, execution, profitability, and operational purpose.

Your Impact

Oversee and monitor cross‑functional teams of technical professionals and subject matter experts to execute project work on mid‑level and/or multiple concurrent projects, including budgets, tracking hours and expenses, task completion, cost and quantities of materials/equipment/labor, deliverables, compliance documentation, and managing the contractual obligations to deliver the project(s) as defined in the contract.

  • Lead the development of project proposals, cost estimates, scope, schedules, and resource plans.
  • Develop the work breakdown structure (WBS) tasks and estimated costs.
  • Establish and actively drive the appropriate levels of technical review required for the project, selecting appropriately qualified staff and ensuring adherence to the QA/QC plan.
  • Maintain a record of each review and the disposition of review comments and all correspondence leaving the project.
  • Mentor project team members to support their growth and professional development.
  • Perform margin analyses, establish margin goals and risk contingencies.
  • Participate in the technical aspects of contract negotiation, presentation, and meetings.
  • Develop and update the Project Initiation/Setup Documentation, including risk, project management plan, quality plan, safety plan, and communications plan.
  • Conduct and facilitate project kick‑off meetings with key stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively with Project Accounting to monitor and track project metrics, estimated time‑to‑completion, cash management, and budgeted margin for an assigned portfolio of projects.
  • Oversee management of budgeting, forecasting, scheduling, cost and change management and control.
  • Coordinate with area/technical managers to address project resource and subcontracting requirements in a timely manner.
  • Maintain regular communications with the client, reporting on monthly status, safety incidents, and major issues together with scope and budget impacts.
  • Participate in problem project reviews, providing input about root‑cause issues and potential solutions to leadership and other stakeholders.
  • Provide regular project reporting and updates to clients, technical area, and business unit managers, identifying any emergent issues with scope, risk, and/or budget.
  • Monitor accounts receivable (AR) and unbilled revenue, working to address issues as needed.
  • Work with the Procurement Department to close out procurements and/or supplier agreements as appropriate.
  • Complete formal project closeout activities, conducting and documenting a lessons‑learned meeting with key project staff.
  • Remain current in the latest Project Management techniques and practices (PMAP).
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or a related major, or equivalent experience in a technical or engineering firm.
  • Essential project management certification required (e.g., PMP, CAP‑M).
  • 10+ years of relevant post‑education experience in a project management role within our industry.
  • Proficient understanding of the project delivery process within the A/E/C industry and strong background in project management.
  • Highly proficient analytical and organizational skills, with business acumen to bridge the business and project management functions.
  • Highly proficient with critical thinking and problem‑solving skills to make assessments and calculations involving the application of project management principles.
  • Highly proficient interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively, persuasively, and tactfully with leadership, subcontractors, and employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong self‑leadership with attention to detail, multi‑tasking, and the ability to adjust readily to changing priorities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Works independently to provide guidance and leadership to mid‑level to senior‑level team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, relevant software, MS Office suite products (e.g., Word, Excel, Visio, Project, SharePoint), technology, spreadsheets, and PM tools.
  • Experienced in providing critical review for documents and preparing project deliverables and plans with a high degree of complexity.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating resources and assertively directing consultants, suppliers, subcontractors, and others to consistently complete tasks competently and efficiently.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project‑specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical work week.
  • Up to 25% travel may be required depending on project‑specific requirements.

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $119,600 – $213,200. WSP USA reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances unrelated to protected status.
