We are seeking an experienced, Mission Critical Project Manager for our Philadelphia area office to lead select Mission Critical projects while developing and expanding in a group that can execute large scale Mission Critical projects on a regional and national basis. Successful candidates will have a passion for mentoring and developing others while leading project designs with our clients. This Project Manager will also provide technical expertise, serve as a resource to the staff, and support the sales efforts by establishing, maintaining and cultivating client relationships.

We will be selecting a candidate who thrives on challenges and constantly pushes the norm. This role requires the ability to develop clients and attract new business, manage internal teams, and execute multiple projects (of long and short duration) concurrently. Suitable candidates need to possess knowledge and experience with industry standards and latest technologies in MEP systems design of mission critical facility infrastructure. The ability to lead projects and teams, communicate and work with clients, owner’s representatives, facility engineers and Bala’s multi-discipline staff and project teams are essential.

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Mission Critical Project Manager is a leader in a dynamic and entrepreneurial position that that directs and assesses the daily operations of an engineering team through facilitated collaboration among engineers, clients and other roles. The Project Manager will review proposals, supervise the budgeting and cost analysis for projects and identify improvements and efficiencies, internally and externally, across the firm to produce higher quality products or services. The candidate should view this as a high opportunity position with the opportunity for advancement.

This is a full-time role which qualifies for four days in the office and one day remote.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Serve as a project manager on select projects in the Mission Critical Sector. Project types include newbuilds, renovations, fit-outs and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Client facing role, RFP site visits and proposal writing is expected. PM duties include planning, execution and day-to-day management of internal teams and clients.
  • Provide all management functions including scope responsibilities, client management, scheduling, and financials.
  • Vet company processes and provide input.
  • Assist project managers across all locations of the enterprise.
  • Develop a core group of assistant project managers eventually capable of performing independently on similar project types.
  • As a Project Manager based out of the Philadelphia office, it is expected that most of the time will be spent in the local area. Travel to other Bala offices is encouraged on an as-needed basis. National travel to project sites is expected and will occur infrequently on an as-needed basis based on the requirements of the project.
  • Be a technical resource for the staff.
  • Manage/schedule quality control reviews to reinforce technical lessons and company processes.
  • Complete internal peer reviews and provide input in multi-discipline page turns, across all offices, to assist in the development of a comprehensive design.
  • Manage/schedule page turns prior to all major project deliverables.
  • Provide input utilizing sound engineering principles.
Project Staffing Support and Enterprise Management
  • Review workforce projections and determine how they relate to staffing.
  • Identify times and strategies to manipulate design schedules to work with staffing.
  • Drive ownership, accountability and culture through the company.
  • Interact with partners and executives on a regular basis to further the growth and quality agenda of the firm.
  • Marketing / Business Development Support
  • Identify potential business opportunities.
  • Work with the leadership team to develop fees on complex projects.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships.
  • Grow the volume and footprint of the office market sectors.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • At least ten years of experience in engineering consulting or adjacent field (construction, owner’s representative, etc.)
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or another relevant field from a 4-year accredited university
  • PE license preferred
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Knowledge of building codes
  • Strong interpersonal and team building skills
  • Knowledge of industry best practices and the latest technologies for MEP systems design of Mission Critical Facilities
