Job description

Position Description

The Project Manager contributes to the overall success of CR Meyer and its heavy industrial customers throughout the planning, budgeting, construction and post-construction project phases, with a strong emphasis on complex heavy civil and water infrastructure work. This includes projects involving dams, spillways, intake/outlet structures, cofferdams, dewatering systems and related civil/structural improvements. Uses experience and knowledge of construction principles, project controls, customer coordination and safety leadership to ensure all objectives of the project are accomplished within the customer’s and CR Meyer’s safety guidelines, as well as all designated quality, schedule, budget, regulatory and environmental requirements.

  • Works collaboratively with heavy industrial, utility, municipal, government and private-sector customers in estimating, planning and executing projects involving dams, water control structures, facility updates, equipment installation, plant shutdowns, civil/structural improvements and related heavy industrial construction.
  • Works with the General Manager or Vice President on preparing bid proposals, following established estimating processes and presents them to customers. Follows-up with customers on all outstanding proposals.
  • Establishes estimates, contracts, budgets, schedules, personnel needs and overall goals for the construction phase for all awarded construction projects.
  • Leads project planning for dam-related scopes, including site access, temporary works, cofferdams, bypass pumping, dewatering, concrete repair, earthwork, structural steel, mechanical systems and coordination of work performed in or around water.
  • Coordinates with owners, engineers, inspectors, subcontractors, vendors and regulatory representatives to support permitting, constructability reviews, technical submittals, RFIs, change management and field execution on dam and water infrastructure projects.
  • Maintains a high level of ethics when soliciting pricing from vendors and subcontractors and refrains from sharing confidential pricing or bid information.
  • Acts as the primary liaison between the customer and CR Meyer, continually fostering open communication and trust between all parties.
  • Manages proper staffing levels for project completion working with the General Manager, Labor Relations Manager and Human Resources Manager.
  • Responsible for subcontractor and vendor selection, schedules and manages their services.
  • Takes an active role in the implementation of the CR Meyer Risk Control Plan for all projects and is proactive and enthusiastic about safety every day.
  • Leads the effort to establish and maintain a safe job site working with the customer, on-site staff, Safety Coordinator and the whole project team.
  • Promotes safe execution of high-risk dam and heavy civil work by planning for water hazards, excavation and earthwork risks, confined spaces, crane and rigging activities, temporary access, environmental controls and emergency response needs.
  • Leads by personal example and is a strong advocate for the CR Meyer Mission-Vision-Values and Code of Conduct.
  • Ensures that the project has all assigned equipment, tools, supplies and other resources needed to complete the job. Works to control tool losses, ensures transfers are completed and monitors “hold” accounts.
  • Prepares POs for all project-related expenses, oversees and approves labor hours, expense sheets, invoicing and is responsible for receivables management.
  • Reviews and approves all project subcontracts, purchases, timesheets and expense reports. Timely review and completes AP unapproved invoices, prebills, etc.
  • Continually reviews project progression, assesses risk and deviations, provides periodic updates and regularly communicates with the customer, project team, field staff, subcontractors, engineers, inspectors and other interested parties to ensure projects stay within specifications, permits, schedule and budget through completion.
  • Completes change orders as needed for out-of-scope work.
  • Uses the Viewpoint software program for setting up jobs, entering budgets, writing purchase orders, pending change orders (PCOS), approved changed orders (ACOs) and subcontracts.
  • Ensures that the proper QA/QC standards and procedures required for the project are implemented and within CR Meyer guidelines, including documentation, inspections, testing and closeout requirements for dam, concrete, civil/structural and mechanical scopes.
  • Works with the Design/Build team on “means and methods” engineering controls.
  • At project completion, oversees the preparation of the final project punch list for the customers’ review and ensures that it is properly completed.
  • Properly documents completed projects to use as a reference in the future.
  • Wears all assigned PPE and observes CR Meyer safety guidelines at all times.
  • Due to project deadlines and demands, regular and reliable attendance is required.
  • Completes all related reports and paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Represents the CR Meyer brand in a positive, professional manner at all times.
  • All other duties as assigned.
