Job summary

Knight Const. & Supply, Inc. is seeking a Project Manager Intern to support project teams from proposal through execution, ensuring documentation accuracy and client satisfaction.

The role partners with the development team to shepherd projects, manage schedules, and coordinate with foremen on site. This internship emphasizes hands-on learning in a stable, family-owned company environment.

Qualifications

  • The candidate is a 3rd or 4th year student pursuing a Bachelor’s in Construction Management, Civil or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Strong knowledge or willingness to learn heavy civil construction materials, processes, and equipment.
  • Motivated, hardworking, problem solver with attention to detail and organization.
  • Proficient with MS Office and construction software such as MS Project, AutoCAD; additional tools are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement project-specific work plans.
  • Prepare documentation: submittals, bids, contracts, invoices, change orders.
  • Communicate deviations from bids to clients and subs; secure approvals.
  • Review subcontractor work for compliance and approve changes.
  • Establish and track budgets; schedule coordination with Foreman.
  • Negotiate with subcontractors and suppliers; manage billings.
  • Assist with on-site meetings; oversee quality control and punch lists.

PROJECT MANAGER INTERN

Gain valuable experience in a role that is responsible for successful identification and resolution of field, contract, and construction conflicts. The Project Manager (PM) oversees construction projects and associated documentation through the completion of the project. The PM works alongside the development team to shepherd the project from the proposal stage and estimating process while meeting the client needs and company requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

These duties are those typically performed in this position. Employee may not perform all the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties.

  • Compose and implement project specific work plan
  • Prepare required documentation such as submittals, bid packages, contracts, invoices, change orders, billing forecasts and other administrative requirements
  • Communicate deviations from original job bid to actual job site conditions to client, subcontractors, and secure additional work authorization prior to starting changes
  • Review the work performed by the subcontractors to ensure compliance with the contract documents and review and approve change orders submitted by subcontractors
  • Establish and track budgets
  • Create, track and coordinate project schedule
  • Negotiate with subcontractors and suppliers
  • Create and track billings
  • Work with Foreman to schedule tasks, determine best construction methods and control labor, equipment, and material usage; Conduct on site meetings
  • Oversee quality control
  • Attend completion inspections utilizing contractor punch list
  • Attend final acceptance inspections as scheduled by governmental entities
  • Compile and submit O&M’s as-builts, and as constructed drawings
  • Work within and promote corporate vision, mission, and values of the organization
  • Performs other duties as assigned
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND EDUCATION

The following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the job and/or learned within a short period of time to successfully perform the assigned duties.

  • 3rd or 4th Year Student working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Civil or Mechanical Engineering
  • Strong knowledge or desire to learn/work in heavy civil construction materials, processes and equipment, including future employment with Knight
  • Motivated, hardworking, problem solver, attention to detail and well organized
  • Computer skills such as MS Office, Microsoft Project, AutoCAD (BLUEBEAM, Sage 300-Timberline, and Primavera P6 scheduling software a plus)
