Job Description

The Environmental Business Line of AECOM is seeking a Hazardous Building Material/Industrial Hygiene Project Manager for immediate employment with the Northeast department of the EHS & Air Practice. The candidate will report to the Boston, MA, Chelmsford, MA, or Manchester, NH office.

Applicants should have at least 8 years of experience performing and managing building hazardous material (asbestos, lead paint, etc.) surveys, abatement oversight, and design and/or industrial hygiene projects. This is a seller/doer role that combines technical project execution with business development. Responsibilities include identifying and pursuing new business opportunities, developing client relationships, and securing contracts internally and externally.

Responsibilities
  • Managing and/or self-performing a wide range of hazardous building material and industrial hygiene projects for private and public-sector clients
  • Collaborating with licensed/certified professionals and technical/regulatory specialists on projects that include survey and investigation work, abatement/remediation design, and abatement/remediation
  • Providing technical and/or regulatory leadership for projects throughout New England, the US, and internationally
  • Developing proposals, including scope, budgets, and schedules for survey, design, abatement, and other industrial hygiene projects
  • Managing or reviewing technical work and field activities to ensure compliance with the contracted scope, budget, schedule, and regulatory/industry standards
  • Reviewing, coordinating, or preparing written reports, work plans, and technical memorandum; analyzing data and developing supported conclusions
  • Working collaboratively with other teams within the EHS department, Environment business line, and across AECOM’s other internal business lines
  • Proactively identifying opportunities to increase project efficiencies and adding value to client service offerings
  • Identifying and pursuing new business opportunities and supporting department growth through internal and external sales
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • BA/BS + 8 years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Technical experience directly related to building hazardous material (asbestos, lead paint, etc.)
  • Industrial hygiene, mold, or indoor air quality experience
  • 40‑hour OSHA HAZWOPER training
  • EPA AHERA Asbestos Inspector Certification
  • New England State specific licenses and certifications pertaining to asbestos (MA, ME, NH, CT) or eligibility to obtain such licenses
  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review
  • US Citizenship required because of the nature of the work
Preferred Qualifications
  • EPA Asbestos Management Planner, EPA Asbestos Project Designer, EPA Asbestos Supervisor, or EPA Lead Risk Assessor
  • New England State Asbestos Designer licenses (MA, CT, ME)
  • Experience with strategy and growth plan development and execution
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist or Certified Safety Professional
  • Experience developing scope, fee, and terms for interdisciplinary proposals related to hazardous material services
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and adapt to changing priorities
  • Ability to interact with architects and engineers on fast‑paced building renovation designs requiring the development of asbestos/hazardous material program requirements, drawings, specifications, and design narratives
  • Experience managing and/or mentoring a team of technical professionals and managing projects of varying size across public and private sectors
  • Experience managing scope and budget, staff administration, and development
  • Experience building client relationships, business development, and client management
  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills; highly proficient in technical writing; strong organization and multi‑tasking skills
  • Internally driven, self‑starter, team oriented
Additional Information

  • Willing to travel out‑of‑town for durations ranging from approximately one week to three months, as needed

Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $108,000 to $150,000.
