Job summary

ARCO is seeking an Industrial Controls Project Manager in Chicago, IL. You will lead projects from design to completion, owning performance and customer satisfaction while managing budgets and schedules.

You will oversee PLC/SCADA programming, review control narratives and drawings, and coordinate with clients and the design team to deliver a fully integrated model. The role requires 25-40% site presence and a strong engineering foundation.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of industrial controls experience.
  • Strong understanding of industrial control system architecture.
  • Experience with Ignition SCADA platform configuration and integration.
  • Experience with Siemens and/or Beckhoff PLC programming.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Willing to spend 25-40% on construction job sites.
  • Familiar with construction practices.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of a project from preconstruction through closeout.

  • Review control narratives, drawings, submittals and as-built docs for accuracy and compliance.
  • Support equipment and controls buyout, instrumentation selection, and procurement planning.
  • Direct field installation activities for low-voltage controls and panel installation.
  • Collaborate with clients and design team to deliver ARCO’s integrated model.
  • Grow ARCO’s self-perform controls services.
  • Troubleshooting from discovery to final issue resolution.
  • Work on diverse project types including Mission Critical and Commercial.
  • Maintain focus on quality and safety while ensuring enjoyable client experience.

Second Order Controls – a division of ARCO/Murray National Construction – is seeking a highly-motivated Industrial Controls Project Manager to join our team based in Chicago, IL.At ARCO, every associate is empowered to drive their success. A Day in the Life:
  • Lead all aspects of a project from earliest stages of preconstruction through project closeout. This includes controls design, buyout, installation, and commissioning activities.
  • Oversee PLC and HMI/SCADA programming efforts, including point mapping, sequence implementation, testing strategy, graphics coordination, and field integration support.
  • Review control narratives, shop drawings, panel layouts, submittals, and as-built documentation to confirm accuracy, constructability, and compliance with project scope.
  • Support equipment and controls buyout, including instrumentation selection, controller architecture, vendor evaluations, and procurement planning.
  • Direct field installation activities for low-voltage controls systems, including device placement, wiring coordination, control panel installation, communications infrastructure, and point-to-point verification.
  • Work closely with clients and design team to deliver ARCO’s fully integrated model on ARCO’s most complex projects.
  • Operate as a leading contributor in growing ARCO’s self-perform controls services.
  • Troubleshooting is a major element in this role. Candidate will not only be responsible for identifying issues, but also guiding issues from discovery, through troubleshooting/root cause analysis, to final issue resolution.
  • Project types include Mission Critical, Advanced Manufacturing, Power & Gas Infrastructure, Municipal and Private Water Treatment, Waste-to-Value, Commercial, Controlled Environments Agriculture, and more.

Necessary Qualifications:
  • Preferred 5+ years of industrial controls experience.
  • Strong understanding of industrial control system architecture, including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA platforms, instrumentation, field devices, control panels, and communications networks.
  • Experience with Ignition SCADA platform configuration, graphics development, tag structure, alarming, and integration with PLC-based control systems.
  • Experience with Siemens and/or Beckhoff PLC programming, logic development, troubleshooting, and field integration.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with an adaptable and flexible style in working with different types of individuals
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles (HVAC, thermodynamics, heat transfer, process engineering)
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Highly entrepreneurial and self-motivated, with the ability to successfully work on own
  • Comfortable with spending time on construction jobsite – 25-40%.
  • Familiar with construction practices and principles
