Job description

Location: Asheville, NC (Hybrid - 3 days onsite per week)

Assignment Duration: 24 Months (6/01/2026 – 5/31/2028)

Pay Rate: $82.32/hr

The Opportunity

Join one of the nation’s largest energy holding companies as a Project Manager II. This role supports Distribution Substation Optimization projects within the Carolinas West (Mountains Zone). You will contribute to the mission of building a smarter, more resilient energy future by making strategic investments to strengthen the distribution electrical grid and support the transition toward a carbon-free future.

Role Overview

The PM-II holds single-point accountability for the management of all phases of project planning and execution. You will lead a portfolio of projects with low to moderate levels of risk, ensuring success across scope, schedule, cost, safety, and quality. As a unifying agent, you will provide leadership, decision-making, and coordination for matrixed teams in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Leadership: Create, staff, and lead matrixed project teams (Engineering, Project Controls, Construction Management, Supply Chain, Legal, etc.). Provide daily oversight and direction to team members.
  • Stakeholder Management: Establish and maintain communications among project stakeholders. Lead project meetings and prepare monthly status reports and executive communications.
  • Project Planning: Lead the process of project planning, including work definition, estimating, schedule formation, cost control, and procurement/contracting strategies.
  • Execution & Control: Execute projects according to plans within approved constraints. Manage Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), resource plans, risk management, and project close‑out.
Requirements & Qualifications
  • Industry Experience: Utility experience is required.
  • Specialized Knowledge: Prior experience in Electric Distribution or Transmission is highly preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Maximo and advanced Excel skills are strongly preferred.
  • Project Background: Experience with EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) is an asset.
  • Education/Training: Significant experience in project management principles and lead-level coordination.
