Job description

What We're Looking For

Our growing team is seeking a technically proficient engineer who wants to transition into Project Management. The ideal candidate will be motivated to manage small‑to‑medium bridge projects throughout Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont, oversee project budget, scope and schedule, and lead a core team of structural engineers—all while maintaining a healthy work/life balance.

What You'll Do
  • Develop project scope and fee quotation and assist in the preparation of technical proposals and contracts.
  • Serve as the primary client liaison and manage the project team to deliver scope, schedule, and budgets to completion.
  • Perform technical discipline tasks including analysis, reports, design, specification production for assigned projects.
  • Implement the firm’s project delivery plan using HNTB's Sophisticated Delivery Approach and lead the development and execution of the project management plan.
  • Coordinate with managers on project staffing and support performance and compensation reviews.
  • Partner with Client Service Leaders to assist with business development and pursue strategic projects with HNTB's Sophisticated Sales Approach.
  • Possibly be responsible for recruitment, hiring, development, and retention of staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What You'll Need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 8 years of relevant experience.
  • 2 years of task management or Deputy PM experience.
What You'll Bring
  • Experience delivering 4for4 projects (on‑time, on‑budget, quality, client satisfaction).
  • Ability to lead a small project or task order with few subconsultants.
  • Proficiency in system tools to manage, monitor, and deliver smaller projects.
  • Knowledge of HNTB Sophisticated processes and ability to implement them.
  • Experience interfacing with client‑level peers on small projects.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and perform portions of the technical work.
What We Prefer
  • Master’s degree in Engineering.
  • 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification.

Salary Range

Vermont: $126,950.84 – $198,564.14 (approximate). Nationwide: $126,950.84 – $248,205.18 (approximate).
