Job summary

French & Parrello Associates (FPA) is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead geotechnical projects and mentor the team from our headquarters in Wall Township, NJ. You will coordinate with clients, regulators, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver complex investigations, analyses, and designs.

The ideal candidate holds a NJ PE license with 8+ years of geotechnical experience, strong leadership and communication skills, and a track record of project delivery and client relationship

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field required.
• Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or related discipline preferred.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of New Jersey required.
• Minimum of 8 years of progressive geotechnical engineering experience with project management and leadership.
• Experience with geotechnical site investigations, foundation design, soil-structure interaction, and remedial solutions.
• Strong communication and ability to manage multiple projects and clients.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage geotechnical engineering projects from inception through completion.
• Establish and maintain relationships with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies.
• Oversee the design and analysis of geotechnical aspects including foundation design, slope stability, soil mechanics, earth retaining structures, and groundwater management.
• Supervise and mentor junior engineers, geologists, and technicians.
• Prepare and review geotechnical investigation reports, feasibility studies, and technical specifications.
• Ensure high standards of quality control and review project deliverables.
• Develop project budgets, track costs, and monitor schedules.
• Assist in identifying new business opportunities, preparing proposals, and supporting marketing initiatives.
• Ensure all projects comply with regulations and safety/environmental standards.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience managing geotechnical projects and providing technical leadership in geotechnical investigation, analysis, and design. Working closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams, this individual will oversee all aspects of project delivery.

Geotechnical Engineering Expertise & Project Experience

FPA’s Geotechnical Department provides investigation, analysis, design, and construction-phase services for diverse infrastructure and development projects. Our professionals evaluate subsurface conditions and develop practical recommendations that support safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible project delivery.

The Project Manager – Geotechnical will oversee projects from initial investigation and feasibility evaluation through design and construction support. This role requires strong technical expertise, project management experience, and the ability to coordinate with clients, regulatory agencies, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams while managing multiple assignments.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage geotechnical engineering projects from inception through completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and meet client expectations.
• Establish and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies, providing technical advice and strategic direction as needed.
• Oversee the design and analysis of geotechnical aspects of projects including foundation design, slope stability, soil mechanics, earth retaining structures, and groundwater management.
• Supervise and mentor junior engineers, geologists, and technicians, ensuring their professional development and adherence to company standards.
• Prepare and review geotechnical investigation reports, feasibility studies, and technical specifications for clients and contractors.
• Ensure high standards of quality control, review project deliverables, and provide constructive feedback to team members.
• Develop project budgets, track project costs, and monitor schedules, proactively addressing any issues that could impact project delivery.
• Assist in identifying new business opportunities, preparing proposals, and supporting marketing initiatives to grow the geotechnical division.
• Ensure all projects comply with local, state, and federal regulations and maintain the highest standards of safety and environmental responsibility.

Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of New Jersey required.
• Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in geotechnical engineering, with a focus on project management and leadership.
• Experience with geotechnical site investigations, foundation design, soil-structure interaction, and remedial solutions.
• Prior experience managing multiple projects simultaneously and interacting with clients.
• Strong technical expertise in geotechnical engineering, including software tools for analysis
• Proficient in project management software.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.
• Willingness to travel to project sites as needed (including occasional overnight stays).
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
• Additional certifications such as Geotechnical Engineer-in-Training (EIT); Preferred but not required.

Compensation

The projected compensation range for this position is $120,000 to $150,000. Actual compensation will depend on factors including experience, education, qualifications, and skill set. FPA recognizes and rewards performance through an annual bonus program.
