Job summary

Harlan Electric, a MYR Group Inc. subsidiary, is seeking an Estimator or Associate Estimator to join our team in the transmission, distribution, or commercial electrical markets. The role involves take-offs, vendor quotes, bid preparation, and collaborating with project teams.

Ideal candidates have experience in estimating electrical projects, strong analytical and communication skills, and a commitment to safety and quality. Training for associates is provided in our comprehensive program.

Qualifications

• Ability to understand construction drawings, specs, and bid documents.
• Experience estimating transmission, distribution, utility, or commercial electrical projects.
• Strong written and verbal communication and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

• Follow estimating process and upload project docs to ShareFile.
• Review contracts and prepare pricing in line with requirements.
• Obtain vendor/subcontractor quotes and evaluate pricing for bids.
• Prepare customer deliverables (schedule, proposal letters).
• Identify milestones, LDs, and potential change orders with PM.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Harlan Electric team is growing! We're looking to add an Estimator or Associate Estimator to our team.

Ideal candidates for the Estimator role will have experience estimating projects in transmission & distribution, utility, or commercial electrical markets.

We also welcome Associate Estimator applicants. If selected, you'll participate in our comprehensive training program designed to build the technical knowledge and estimating skills needed for a successful career with Harlan Electric.

Essential Functions

• Abide by estimating process
• Work with the Estimating Coordinator to upload project documents to ShareFile for vendors/subcontractors
• Review all contract documents to become familiar with project requirements and obligations under the contract and apply to pricing (schedule, specifications, drawings, safety manual, etc.), reviewing documents for accuracy and consistency
• Work with the Estimating Coordinator to submit RFIs for estimating questions by deadline.
• Perform take-off and material take-off where applicable
• Obtain vendor and subcontractor quotes and evaluate for completeness and best price for use in bid.
• Distribute qualification documents as required for the bid (MBE, WBE, experience, key individuals, etc.)
• Participate in the estimate review process with internal and external stakeholders. Setup all corporate reviews and lead discussion
• Prepare and/or provide input for customer required deliverables (schedule, proposal letter, etc.)
• Prepare award documents for review to be submitted by the deadline
• Identify areas of importance (milestones, LDs, etc.) of a project and relay to PM and/or Regional Director
• Identify possible change orders and relay to PM
• Review purchase orders, subcontracts, and contracts for accuracy
• Facilitate a scope review with the PM; assist construction personnel in understanding basis and approach to the cost estimate
• Participate in KOM to handoff project to project management

Core Competencies

• Strong communication, organization, analytical, leadership and relationship skills
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.
• Ability to prepare construction schedules in Microsoft Project and/or Primavera P6
• Ability to handle multiple talks and work under pressure
• Self- starter able to work with minimal supervision

• Ability to understand, and/or possess basic knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time/cost/labor estimates for projects and services

Preferred Education

• High school diploma or GED is required

  • Commensurate with experience, paid weekly. MYR Group reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
