Job Description

As a Project Manager for our Building Sciences/Environmental Health team, you’ll support projects that help clients identify, evaluate, and manage hazardous material and building science risks. In this role, you’ll contribute across the project lifecycle—from proposals and field execution to reporting and client communication—while helping deliver safe, high-quality work for projects in New Jersey and the Tri-State Area . The role is part of Atlas’ Building Sciences practice within Environmental Health.

Join a dynamic, value-driven, client- and community-focused environment where your work creates a lasting positive impact for the people and communities we serve.

Core Responsibilities

  • Manage mold, asbestos, lead, indoor air quality (IAQ), industrial hygiene, and other Building Science projects in a variety of commercial, industrial, and institutional settings.
  • Provide leadership, training, mentorship, and technical support to team members at all levels of the organization.
  • Oversee junior staff, subcontractors, and multiple concurrent projects while ensuring quality, efficiency, and client satisfaction.
  • Communicate and collaborate professionally with clients, contractors, regulatory agencies, and project stakeholders.
  • Maintain effective communication with supervisors and Atlas team members regarding project status, schedules, and deliverables.
  • Review and interpret project specifications, sampling methodologies, building plans, and construction documents.
  • Develop project budgets, prepare technical proposals, and produce comprehensive reports while supporting quality assurance and quality control efforts.
  • Ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within established budget parameters.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain environmental testing equipment, including air-sampling pumps, real-time monitoring instruments, moisture meters, infrared (IR) cameras, and calibrators.
  • Adhere to all Atlas health, safety, and environmental policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support project demands that may occasionally require off-hours, evening, or weekend work.
  • Travel throughout the Tri-State region as required, with occasional out-of-region travel opportunities available based on project needs.

You’ll thrive here if you have

  • Demonstrated experience managing asbestos, mold, lead-based paint, industrial hygiene, and related environmental projects.
Certifications & Technical Knowledge
  • Current certifications such as AHERA Building Inspector/Management Planner, New Jersey Asbestos Safety Technician, New Jersey Lead Inspector, and/or NIOSH 582 preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of federal and state asbestos and lead regulations, including AHERA, NESHAP, OSHA, and New Jersey asbestos and lead-paint requirements.
  • Working knowledge of Industrial Hygiene principles, Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) assessments, and mold investigations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications, regulatory requirements, and environmental sampling methodologies.
Additional Requirements
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to pass a motor vehicle background check.
  • Reliable transportation for travel to project sites throughout the assigned region.
  • Ability to wear a respirator and perform field activities in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Ability to climb ladders, access confined or elevated spaces, and perform site inspections safely.
  • Willingness to travel as required to support project and client needs.
  • Experience serving in a client-facing role, including business development and client management, is preferred.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, maintain flexibility, and work independently with minimal supervision.
