Job summary

OPAL Fuels is seeking an experienced Project Manager EPC with 10+ years of experience to oversee engineering, procurement, and construction for biogas-to-RNG and renewable energy projects nationwide. The role reports to the Director of EPC and requires managing subcontractors, safety, budget, and schedule while coordinating with development and operations teams.

The position is initially home-based with up to 50% overnight travel; relocation to the Charlotte, NC area is expected after one year

Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or Petroleum Engineering from an ABET-accredited university; MS/MBA preferred.
  • PMP certification preferred but not required.
  • 10+ years of industrial scale project management experience.
  • Experience on gas processing projects (RNG, gas transmission, LNG, etc.).
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills; ability to manage multiple states.

Position Summary

We are hiring a Project Manager EPC with at least 10years of experience to report to the Director Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) and will have responsibility for managing sub-contractors who are performing commercial / industrial construction and engineering projects nationwide. The ideal candidate will have related experience with process plant / process piping projects in Oil & Gas, Refinery, Chemical Process, Biogas, and other related process facility projects.The position may be based anywhere in the continental United States during the first year of employment, with relocation to the Charlotte, NC area expected thereafter. A reasonable commute to a major commercial airport and the ability to travel are required.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage projects during the development, pre-construction, construction, and commissioning phases.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact and maintain consistent and thorough communication with key stakeholders (both internal and external).
  • Ensure smooth transitions between project phases through close coordination with members of the development and operations teams.
  • Accountable for safety, scope, budget, risk management and schedule of assigned projects.
  • Projects will be a mix of the following: conversion of biogas to Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) or biogas to Renewable Electricity; Greenfield development, brownfield redevelopment, or distressed asset rehabilitation; EPC or design build project delivery.
  • Oversee or directly perform the completion of: owner-related permitting; contracting with consultants and contractors; negotiations and contractual agreements; utility interconnections (natural gas, power, water, sanitary, internet, etc.); land or land rights acquisition; estimating; bidding; equipment procurement; logistics and material transport.
  • Ensure compliance and reporting for permits, material contracts, lenders, and equity.
  • Manage costs, schedules, risks, deliverables, tasks, and reporting.
Qualifications and Skills
  • BS in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or Petroleum Engineering from an ABET-accredited university. Advanced degree (MS or MBA) preferred.
  • PMP certification preferred but not required.
  • Ten plus years of industrial scale project management experience.
  • Experience working on gas processing projects such as RNG, gas transmission and compression, gas treating, air separation, LNG, CNG, hydrogen, or related.
  • Must be able to adapt and pivot in response to changes on a day-to-day basis.
  • Demonstratable skills and experience with Autodesk Construction Cloud, Procore, Primavera, or MS Project.
  • Strong understanding of project controls and contract management. Experience managing projects with CAPEX greater than $50MM.
  • Ability to manage concurrent projects in multiple states.
  • Approximately 30% travel overnight normally, but during plant commissioning your presence may be required on-site daily.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • A strong candidate will have an existing network of vendors, consultants, and contractors throughout the US and be able to deploy those resources to support the overall goals of the Upstream Construction group.
  • Must have appropriate experience within the United States.
Work Hours and Arrangements

Role will initially be home based with 50% overnight travel required from anywhere in the US with access to a major airport within one hour distance from residence. Future plans to open an office in Charlotte NC will require the successful candidate be open to relocating to the Charlotte, North Carolina to work a hybrid schedule in the established office.

The role involves extended periods of sitting and working at a computer, with frequent use of hands and fingers for typing and operating standard office equipment. Field responsibilities include performing walk downs at active construction, industrial, or operational sites; walking on uneven or unimproved surfaces such as gravel, dirt, concrete, steel grating, and scaffolding; climbing stairs, ladders (including vertical ladders), and scaffolding; working at heights and in confined or congested spaces; and safely wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE), which may include hard hats, safety glasses, steel toe boots, gloves, hearing protection, fall protection equipment, and respirators as dictated by site conditions. The position requires the ability to work in outdoor and industrial environments with potential exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, dust, lighting, and nearby moving equipment, while maintaining situational awareness and adherence to safety protocols. Travel and extended work hours may be required to support project needs.

Pay

The range for this role is anticipated to be $150,000 - $180,000 annually with bonus for eligible positions. Where a specific pay range is noted, it is a good faith estimate at the time of this posting. The actual salary offered will be based on experience, skills, qualifications, market / business considerations, and geographic location.
