With highly skilled and certified field technicians, the company actively supports the highest‑profile local projects. FTL offers market‑leading expertise in Structural Steel - from evaluation of historic members and development of optimum welding processes to certification of welders. FTL strongly encourages and supports participation in Professional Societies, with employees as voting members and chairs of committees at ASTM, ASNT, and ACI.

Role Description

This is a unique opportunity to join a small family‑owned testing lab and work with a tight‑knit group of experienced professionals. The applicant must be an IL PE or able to become one within 3 months of hire. This full‑time hybrid position will include working with Structural Engineer clients in the materials evaluation of existing structures and on Geotechnical Investigations as well as acting as an on‑site CMT Project Manager role located in the Greater Chicago Area. Duties will be split approximately 70% CMT Project Manager and 30% Engineering. The Project Manager will oversee and coordinate construction projects, ensuring on‑time delivery and adherence to quality and safety standards. Daily responsibilities include managing project timelines, supervising inspection processes, liaising with clients, and optimizing logistics for construction materials. The Project Manager will also collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to achieve project goals efficiently. Being a small business, it is expected that duties will be broad and may shift quickly depending on immediate needs.

Qualifications
  • 5 years minimum experience in the Construction Industry.
  • IL PE or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire.
  • Strong expertise in Project Management, including planning, execution, and monitoring project timelines and deliverables.
  • Possess an ACI Grade 1 Field Technician certification or the ability to obtain quickly.
  • Experience with Expediting and Logistics Management to ensure timely procurement and delivery of materials and resources.
  • Good communication skills and outgoing nature, interested in cultivating long‑term client relationships and responding quickly to Client communications.
  • Relevant capabilities in Inspection processes to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Additional skills in team collaboration, problem‑solving, and effective communication.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field is preferred.
