Job summary

Intertek is seeking a Project Manager for Construction Materials Testing and Special Inspection in Charlotte, North Carolina. You will oversee field testing, reporting, client communication, and project budgeting to ensure on-time delivery across commercial and industrial projects.

The ideal candidate holds a BS in Civil Engineering, 5+ years in CMT/SI, NC PE or the ability to obtain, and strong leadership skills for mentoring staff and driving proposals and BD efforts in the region.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• 5+ years' experience in construction material testing and inspection.
• NC P.E. license or ability to obtain in-state.
• Business development and proposal management experience.
• Prior personnel management, hiring and training experience.
• P&L responsibilities management.
• Ability to read and understand work plans.
• Willing to travel up to 25% and hold a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Field engineering duties including data reduction, analysis and fieldwork for various project types.
• Assist with project management and reporting.
• Field inspection, sampling and testing of soils, concrete, masonry, reinforcing steel, etc.

The Project Manager is responsible for work related to Construction Materials Testing (CMT) & Special Inspection (SI) projects throughout the greater Charlotte area.

What you’ll do:

• Field engineering duties including data reduction, analysis & fieldwork for commercial, industrial, retail, government, and office projects
• Assisting with project management & reporting
• Field inspection, sampling & testing of soils, concrete, masonry, reinforcing steel, etc.
• Report preparation and Report Review
• Client consultation and maintenance
• Provide assistance to other PSI members to promote the overall objectives of the company.
• Prepare proposals and perform proposal follow up
• Perform billing and ensure project is within budget and project closeout
• Prepare change orders and document changes in scope
• Ensure field testing and inspections are scheduled and performed correctly and keep client informed of progress
• Train field staff on different types of testing and inspection techniques in accordance with ASTM, ACI and other guidance
• Assist other project managers and department manager with field, lab, and office tasks
• Dispatch technicians to projects in the area

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an accredited engineering / ABET school is required
• 5+ years' experience in construction material testing and inspection required
• North Carolina P.E. License is required or ability to obtain in State of residence of employment and adjacent States as needed
• Business development & project proposal creation / management is required
• Prior personnel management, hiring and training experience required
• P&L responsibilities management required
• Effective communication skills (written, verbal and listening) and solid interpersonal skills are required
• The ability to read and understand work plans is required
• Must be able to work off shift and overtime as needed
• May travel up to 25% of time
• Valid Driver's License and reliable driving record required
