Job summary

BKF Engineers, Inc. is seeking experienced Bridge & Structures Project Managers to lead pursuit, design, and delivery of complex bridge projects in Northern California and the Central Valley. The roles involve client development, multidisciplinary team leadership, and end-to-end project execution from proposal through construction, with a flexible work environment.

Ideal candidates have a B.S. in Civil Engineering, a California P.E.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Civil Engineering is required; M.S. in Structural Engineering preferred.
• California P.E. license required.
• 12+ years of progressive bridge/structural design and PM experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver bridge and structural projects from pursuit through construction, including scope, schedule, and budget.
• Build and maintain relationships with clients, agencies, and teams across Northern and Central California.
• Manage multidisciplinary project teams and coordinate with civil, survey, environmental, and construction stakeholders.
• Mentor engineers in PS&E packages, studies, reports, and calculations.
• Perform and review bridge analysis and design using bridge-specific software.
• Ensure designs comply with AASHTO LRFD, seismic requirements.
• Provide construction support, site visits, RFIs, and submittal reviews.
• Lead bridge inspection and maintenance projects where applicable.
• Communicate complex concepts clearly in writing and speaking for client presentations.
• Manage project schedules, budgets, and performance metrics across multiple projects.

We are hiring Bridge & Structures Project Managers to support growing workloads - one focused on Northern California and the other on the Central Valley. These roles will lead the pursuit, design, and delivery of complex bridge projects, with responsibilities spanning client development, multidisciplinary team leadership, and project execution from proposal through construction. Both roles offer a flexible work environment and require candidates to be based within or near their respective regions, with occasional travel to support client and project needs.

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver bridge and structural engineering projects from pursuit through construction, including proposal development (scope, schedule, budget) and client interviews
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, agency partners, and teaming consultants across Northern and Central California
• Manage multidisciplinary project teams and coordinate with civil, survey, environmental, and construction stakeholders
• Oversee and mentor engineers in the preparation of PS&E packages, technical studies, reports, calculations, and supporting documentation
• Perform and review bridge analysis and design using bridge‑specific finite element and section analysis software
• Ensure designs comply with applicable codes and standards, including AASHTO LRFD and seismic design requirements
• Provide construction support services, including site visits, responding to RFIs, and reviewing shop drawings and submittals
• Lead bridge inspection and preventative maintenance projects, as applicable
• Effectively communicate complex technical concepts in writing and verbally, representing the firm with professionalism
• Manage project schedules, budgets, workload, and performance metrics across multiple concurrent assignments

Requirements

• B.S. in Civil Engineering is required, and M.S. in Structural Engineering is preferred
• California Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is required
• 12+ years of progressive experience in bridge and structural design and project management
• Strong understanding of bridge design codes, seismic principles, and construction practices
• Proven success in leading teams, client management, and deliver complex capital projects

Physical Demands: Must be able to regularly talk, hear and operate a computer, keyboard and mouse and occasionally lift, pull/push and carry up to 20 pounds with accommodations.

Work Conditions: Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds at a low or moderate level consistent with an office setting. Exposure to high-stress, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. Travel to other BKF locations and client sites may be required.

Benefits

• The typical base salary range for this position is $140,000.00 - $205,000.00, annualized depending upon skills, experience, education, and geographical location. This is a salary position paid biweekly
