About the Role

The Project Manager oversees the structural design process from inception to construction, handling structural analysis, preparing plans and specifications, and reviewing contractor submittals and RFIs. This role involves problem‑solving, decision‑making, and directing the work of junior engineers and BIM technicians. The Project Manager coordinates with clients, architects, municipal agencies, and the design team, manages project schedules, forecasts workloads, and handles project communication and documentation. Technical responsibilities include designing and analyzing mid‑to‑high‑rise buildings using software like ETABS, SAP, and RAM.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead the structural design and analysis of mid‑to‑high‑rise buildings using industry‑standard software including ETABS, SAP2000, and RAM.
  • Develop structural concepts, perform complex engineering analyses, and prepare design criteria for a variety of building projects.
  • Oversee project execution, ensuring designs meet applicable building codes, project requirements, and quality standards.
  • Review and coordinate structural designs with architects, owners, contractors, and other members of the design team.
  • Review shop drawings and construction submittals to verify compliance with design intent, technical requirements, and safety standards.
  • Identify project challenges, develop practical solutions, and guide project teams through implementation.
  • Lead client, consultant, and project team meetings and serve as a primary technical point of contact.
  • Monitor project schedules, budgets, and resource utilization to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, correspondence, and project documentation.
  • Provide quality control reviews and ensure accuracy and attention to detail across all project deliverables.
  • Mentor and supervise junior engineers, providing technical guidance and supporting professional development.
  • Assist with proposal preparation, project budgeting, fee development, and business development initiatives.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships while supporting networking, marketing, and industry engagement efforts.
  • Collaborate across disciplines and offices to support project and company‑wide goals.
What We’re Looking For
  • Strong knowledge of structural engineering principles, building systems, materials, and construction methods.
  • Experience designing and analyzing building structures, preferably mid‑to‑high‑rise projects.
  • Proficiency with ETABS, SAP2000, RAM, and other structural analysis and design software.
  • Thorough understanding of applicable building codes, design standards, and industry best practices.
  • Ability to perform complex engineering analyses and develop practical, data‑driven solutions.
  • Experience reviewing construction documents, shop drawings, and technical submittals.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to balance multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain budgets.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to delivering high‑quality work.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including report writing, presentations, and client interactions.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with clients, architects, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Experience mentoring junior staff and contributing to a positive, team‑oriented culture.
  • Business‑minded approach with an understanding of project financial performance, budgeting, and resource management.

Minimum (Required) Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering or related field; and ten (10) years of relevant work experience in structural analysis and design of mid to high‑rise buildings, including project management; or
  • Master’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering or related field; and eight (8) years of relevant work experience in structural analysis and design of mid to high‑rise buildings, including project management.
  • Professional Engineer’s (PE) license.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in performing and supervising the design and analysis of mid to high rise buildings.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience utilizing software packages such as ETABS, RAM, RISA, Rhino, PCA and SAFE.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience with wind tunnel testing process, applying wind tunnel loads to the lateral model, and supplemental damping strategies.
Minimum (Required) Skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Extensive knowledge of local and national building codes and design practices.
  • Knowledge of standard construction practices and the ability to work with contractors to address construction issues.
  • Detail‑oriented with strong interpersonal, problem‑solving, and team skills.
  • Knowledge of ETABS, SAFE, Rhino, PCA or other similar design tools.
  • Ability to perform and supervise the design and analysis of mid to high rise buildings utilizing software packages such as ETABS, RAM, RISA, and SAFE.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
  • Master’s Degree in Civil, Structural Engineering or related field.
  • Structural Engineer’s (SE) license.
  • Experience working in Grasshopper.
Location and Salary

This position can be in either Boston or Foxborough, Massachusetts At DeSimone Consulting Engineering, we’re committed to transparency — especially when it comes to compensation. The salary range listed reflects what we believe, in good faith, is a fair and competitive range for this role based on the market and location. This is a salaried, exempt position with an anticipated base salary range of $104,370-$120,225, depending on experience and qualifications. Most candidates are typically hired near the midpoint of the range, ensuring a balanced and equitable approach across our team.
That said, we recognize exceptional talent. In cases where a candidate brings significantly more experience or specialized expertise than required, we may consider an offer toward the higher end of the range. We’re excited you’re considering DeSimone and look forward to learning more about you.
