ARCO/Murray’s Second Order Controls division in Chicago seeks a BAS Controls Project Manager. You will own project performance, customer satisfaction, and end-to-end delivery from design to commissioning, with significant field involvement.

Ideal candidates have 5–10 years in DDC/industrial controls, deep knowledge of control systems and Tridium Niagara, and a proven track record leading teams on complex projects. Relocation support is offered, with a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years of DDC or industrial controls experience.
• Strong understanding of control systems architecture (DDC controllers, PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, instrumentation).
• Experience with Tridium Niagara platform.
• Excellent problem-solving and leadership skills.
• Entrepreneurial and self-motivated, able to work independently.
• Willing to spend 25–50% of time on construction jobsite.

Responsibilities

• Lead all aspects of a project from pre-construction to closeout, including controls design, buyout, installation and commissioning.
• Oversee DDC, PLC and SCADA programming, including mapping, sequencing, testing, graphics coordination and field integration.
• Review narratives, drawings, panel layouts, submittals and as-built docs for accuracy and compliance with scope.
• Support equipment and controls buyout, including instrumentation selection and vendor evaluations.
• Direct field installation activities for low-voltage systems, wiring, panels and communications infrastructure.
• Collaborate with clients and design teams to deliver ARCO’s integrated model on complex projects.
• Act as a key contributor to growing ARCO’s self-perform controls services.
• Troubleshoot issues from discovery to root-cause resolution.
• Projects span Mission Critical, Advanced Manufacturing, Power & Gas, Municipal, Water Treatment, and more.

Typical base compensation for the Project Manager role is between $84,000 and $160,000. Candidates with extensive experience may exceed this range. In addition to base salary, the role is eligible to receive discretionary bonus compensation based on individual and company performance.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

• Lead all aspects of a project from the earliest stages of pre‑construction through project closeout, including controls design, buyout, installation, and commissioning.
• Oversee DDC, PLC, and SCADA programming efforts, including point mapping, sequence implementation, testing strategy, graphics coordination, and field integration support.
• Review control narratives, shop drawings, panel layouts, submittals, and as‑built documentation to confirm accuracy, constructability, and compliance with project scope.
• Support equipment and controls buyout, including instrumentation selection, controller architecture, vendor evaluations, and procurement planning.
• Direct field installation activities for low‑voltage controls systems, including device placement, wiring coordination, control panel installation, communications infrastructure, and point‑to‑point verification.
• Work closely with clients and design team to deliver ARCO’s fully integrated model on ARCO’s most complex projects.
• Operate as a leading contributor in growing ARCO’s self‑perform controls services.
• Troubleshoot issues, guiding them from discovery through root‑cause analysis to final resolution.
• Project types include Mission Critical, Advanced Manufacturing, Power & Gas Infrastructure, Municipal and Private Water Treatment, Waste‑to‑Value, Commercial, Controlled Environments Agriculture, and more.
• Find a way to make the construction process fun for clients and trade partners while maintaining quality and safety.

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS

• Preferred 5–10 years of DDC or industrial controls experience.
• Strong understanding of control systems architecture, including DDC controllers, PLCs, HMIs, SCADA platforms, instrumentation, field devices, control panels, and communications networks.
• Experience with Tridium Niagara platform.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and an adaptable, flexible style when working with diverse teams.
• Solid understanding of engineering principles (HVAC, thermodynamics, heat transfer, process engineering).
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
• Highly entrepreneurial and self‑motivated, able to work independently.
• Comfortable spending 25–50 % of time on construction jobsite.
• Familiarity with construction practices and principles.
