Job summary

AbbVie Inc. is expanding its presence in Durham, North Carolina with a new manufacturing campus designed to produce medicines across immunology, oncology and neuroscience.

You will join the core startup leadership team as Project Manager, planning, designing and delivering engineering projects that support manufacturing, R&D and infrastructure needs. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related discipline plus 8+ years of industry experience.
• Experience in drug substance, drug product, biologics and/or aseptic sterile fill finish is required.
• Project Management experience is required with startup experience preferred; PMP certification is a plus.
• Ability to partner cross-functionally with successful teams in a GMP manufacturing environment.
• Travel up to 50% during the initial startup phase of the project.

• Lead system, equipment, and technology installations, ensuring safe integration, commissioning readiness, and on-time delivery.
• Assess project processes and resolve operational or technical issues.
• Deliver operational improvements, business value delivery, and site production efficiency through effective project execution.
• Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams, ensuring integration of systems, equipment, and technologies.
• Deliver high-quality technical outputs for complex projects and programs; document results and key assumptions, ensuring adherence to standards and controls.

The campus will integrate advanced manufacturing, laboratory technologies and AI to support the production of immunology, oncology and neuroscience medicines. The first phase will include manufacturing facilities, next-generation laboratories, a warehouse, administrative offices and employee wellness facilities.

We are now recruiting ourProject Manager as part of the core start up leadership team. In this role, you will responsible for planning, designing, and delivering engineering projects that support manufacturing, R&D, and infrastructure needs. You will lead cross-functional efforts to implement new systems, equipment, and technologies while ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory standards. You will manage project scope, schedule, and budget to deliver operational improvements and business value.

Qualifications

• You will have in-depth knowledge typically obtained through advanced education and experience; with a Bachelors degree in Engineering or similiar related discipline and 8+ years relevant industry experience.
• Experience in drug substance, drug product, biologics and/or aseptic sterile fill finish is required
• Project Management experience is required with specific experience in start up is preferred (PMP certification is preferred)
• You will have demonstrated your ability to partnercross functionally withsuccessful teams in aGMP manufacturing environment
• Travel up to 50% during the initial start up phase of the project

Key Responsibilities

As Project Manager, you will lead technical workstreams and contribute to program outcomes by developing actionable methods and analyses, collaborate with cross‑functional partners to integrate technical solutions throughout the lifecycle, and advise on complex technical decisions and risks. You will:

• Defineproject design and engineering planning for assigned projects.
• Leadsystem, equipment, and technology installations, ensuring safe integration, commissioning readiness, and on-time delivery.
• Assessproject processes and resolves operational or technical issues.
• Deliveroperational improvements, business value delivery, and site production efficiency through effective project execution.
• Providetechnical guidance to junior engineers and collaboratewith cross-functional teams, ensuring integration of systems, equipment, andtechnologies.
• Deliverhigh‑quality technical outputs for complex projects and programs; defines and validates methods, documents results and keyassumptions, ensures adherence to applicable standards and controls, and communicates technical progress, impacts and recommendedmitigations to project leads and stakeholders
