Job summary

Rockwell Sterling seeks an experienced Project Manager to lead heavy civil transportation projects across Virginia, including roads and bridges. You will own projects from preconstruction through completion, ensuring safety, schedule, budget, and quality adherence while driving strong client relationships.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in heavy civil construction, with PM experience on roadway or bridge projects and a solid ability to read civil/structural plans.

Job description

We are currently seeking an experienced Project Manager to join a leading heavy civil contractor working on major roadway and bridge project throughout Virginia. This is an excellent opportunity for a Project Manager with a strong background in transportation construction who wants to take ownership of large-scale projects and work with an established contractor.

You will be responsible for overseeing projects from preconstruction through completion, ensuring they are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage all aspects of roadway and bridge construction projects from start to finish
  • Oversee project schedules, budgets, costs, contracts and change orders
  • Coordinate with owners, engineers, subcontractors and suppliers
  • Manage project documentation, RFIs, submittals and pay applications
  • Lead project meetings and maintain strong client relationships
  • Monitor field operations and work closely with Superintendents to ensure schedule and quality requirements are met
  • Review project plans, specifications and contract requirements
  • Identify and mitigate project risks
  • Assist with estimating, bidding and preconstruction activities
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality and environmental requirements
Project Experience:

The ideal experience will be on highway, roadway, interchange, or other heavy civil/transportation projects. Experience working on VDOT projects is highly desirable.

Requirements:
  • 5+ years of experience in heavy civil construction
  • Previous Project Manager experience on roadway and/or bridge projects
  • Strong understanding of construction means, methods and scheduling
  • Experience managing subcontractors, budgets and project teams
  • Ability to read and interpret civil/structural plans and specifications
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Experience with VDOT or similar DOT projects preferred
