Job summary

Clancy & Theys Construction Company in Newport News, VA is seeking a talented Project Manager to lead the project team on complex construction initiatives. You will coordinate with owners, architects, engineers, trade partners, and internal staff to deliver projects safely, on time, and within budget.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of construction PM experience, a related degree, strong communication skills, and proficiency with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and scheduling software.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in a construction Project Management role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Proficiency in construction management software and scheduling tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lead teams and manage multiple projects.

Responsibilities

  • Provide proactive project management by evaluating contracts, subcontracts, and purchase orders.
  • Maintain frequent communication with project teams to identify issues and ensure timely reporting.
  • Collaborate with the superintendent to prepare and update detailed project schedules.
  • Verify project scope, costs, and buyout schedules with the preconstruction team.
  • Review cost reports and manage owner progress payments.
  • Manage project closeout activities with timely punch lists and documentation.
  • Ensure insurance and bond requirements are met for subcontract scopes.
  • Identify and process change orders and ensure timely approvals.
  • Provide monthly project forecasts through completion.

We are seeking a talented and experienced Project Manager to join our Newport News, VA team. This position ensures that each project is delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with Clancy & Theys’ quality standards.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide proactive project management by evaluating and completing prime contracts, subcontracts, and purchase orders, ensuring all terms and conditions are clearly understood and executed.
  • Maintain frequent communication with project teams to identify and address critical issues and ensure accurate and timely reporting.
  • Collaborate with the superintendent to prepare and update detailed project schedules that align with project goals.
  • Work with the preconstruction team to verify project scope and costs, establish buyout schedules, and facilitate owner direct purchase procedures as needed.
  • Review cost reports, prepare owner progress payments per contract requirements, and ensure positive cash flow.
  • Manage project closeout activities in coordination with the superintendent and subcontractors, ensuring punch lists and documentation are completed promptly.
  • Ensure proper subcontract scopes and values are established in coordination with preconstruction; verify that all insurance and bond requirements are met.
  • Identify and process change orders resulting from RFIs, submittal reviews, or design revisions, and pursue timely approval and payment.
  • Provide accurate monthly project forecasts through completion, identifying potential issues early and developing solutions.
  • Coordinate with assistant project managers and project administrators to ensure thorough and organized documentation.
  • Evaluate and mitigate owner, project, and subcontractor risks, ensuring compliance with safety and bonding requirements.
  • Integrate safety planning into all phases of the project and maintain a proactive safety culture on site.
  • Maintain positive client relationships through responsive communication, issue resolution, and consistent delivery of high-quality results.
Qualifications / Skills and Knowledge Requirements
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in a construction Project Management role.
  • Minimum 2-year Associate’s Degree; Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Proficiency in construction management software, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite; experience with AutoCAD and scheduling software preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of commercial construction processes, contracts, and best practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of interpersonal skill, professionalism, and discretion in managing sensitive situations.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and multi-tasking abilities, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to lead teams, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Valid driver’s license, in good standing.
