Job description

Project Manager – Office of Construction Safety

Hours: Full-Time – 35 Hours. Work Location: 30-30 Thomson Avenue, NY, 11101.

Please include a copy of your Notice of Results or indicate if you are already permanent in the title. If you do not meet the previously mentioned civil service criteria, you will not be considered for an interview.

Responsibilities

Report to the Deputy Director and be responsible for various aspects of construction safety programs, including support for DDC Infrastructure, Public Buildings, and Alternative Delivery capital construction projects. Conduct contractor safety performance evaluations and perform technical tasks related to construction capital project management and delivery. Conduct regular field audits to monitor and verify the remediation of safety findings, ensure compliance with Site Safety Plans and applicable safety standards, communicate findings and recommendations to project staff and contractors. Prepare safety progress reports, coordinate with other divisions and agencies, monitor and report key performance indicators with a focus on continuous improvement, and routinely prepare and maintain status reports for capital and MMR projects for Senior Management. This position plays a critical role in strengthening regulatory compliance and supporting the timely and successful delivery of capital construction projects.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in engineering, engineering technology, architecture, landscape architecture, architectural technology, construction, construction management, construction technology, sustainable design, urban planning, urban studies, city planning, transportation planning, business administration, or public administration, and one year of full‑time satisfactory experience in project management work such as planning, administering, managing, coordinating, or expediting for engineering and/or architectural and/or landscape architectural projects; or
  • A four‑year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five years of experience as described in “1” above; or
  • A four‑year high school diploma or its educational equivalent plus any combination of the experience and/or college education as described in “1” above to make up the equivalent of five years of education and experience. One year of credit will be given for each 30 semester credits of college education leading to a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in engineering, engineering technology, architecture, landscape architecture, architectural technology, construction, construction management, construction technology, sustainable design, urban planning, urban studies, city planning, transportation planning, business administration, or public administration.
Preferred Skills

Prior experience with construction safety and data management. Ability to work collaboratively with others and perform detailed work under time‑sensitive deadlines. Strong analytical, verbal, written, and computer skills.

Citizenship & Work Authorization

All candidates must be currently authorized to work full time in the United States. In compliance with Public Law 99‑603, candidates are required to present original documents proving citizenship or the legal right to work in the U.S. DDC does not support or sponsor any visa application or visa extension, including but not limited to OPT/STEM visas, H‑1B visas, F‑1 practical training, permanent residence sponsorship, or any proposed change of visa type. DDC does not offer a training program as required by U.S. immigration law and is not hiring temporary employees. Candidates must have proper work authorization when an employment offer is made.

Educational Credentials

Educational credentials must be from a U.S. Department of Education‑recognized accredited institution. Credentials from foreign institutions require independent equivalency verification from an approved evaluation service.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
