Job summary

SFDS LLC is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead scenic fabrication projects from concept through fabrication, delivery, and installation. This is a full-time, on-site role in Brooklyn, NY—fast-paced and hands-on, requiring the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities at once.

Experience with fabrication and installation is a must. This field of Project management is not like any other, so with out relevant experience in this field we will not look at your resume.

Qualifications

• Must be local to the Brooklyn area.
• Proven PM experience in fabrication, production, theater, live events.
• Strong understanding of fabrication and installation processes.
• Ability to manage multiple schedules, budgets, and scopes.
• Excellent communication with clients, vendors, and crews.
• Familiarity with technical drawings a plus.
• Flexible for evenings/weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

• Manage multiple projects from initiation to completion, creating production plans and schedules.
• Serve as primary client contact, providing updates and leading walkthroughs.
• Coordinate across fabrication, design, production, installation, procurement, and admin.
• Monitor shop floor and sites to ensure scope, design intent, quality, and safety.
• Coordinate deliveries, installations, and strikes; manage client deliverables.
• Track and approve project costs, labor, and materials; prepare final reports.
• Mentor Assistant PMs and Designers; enforce deadlines and communication.
• Troubleshoot issues quickly to minimize delays and rework.

SFDS (Scenic Fabrication and Design Shop) is a full-service scenic fabrication and design company serving the arts and entertainment industry, delivering everything from single props to turnkey event installations with a reputation for detail and reliability. SFDS operates from a 25,000-square-foot shop in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, plus a mobile shop for site work and large installations.

Position Overview

SFDS LLC is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead scenic fabrication projects from concept through fabrication, delivery, and installation. This is a full-time, on-site role in Brooklyn, NY — fast-paced and hands-on, requiring the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities at once. Experience with fabrication and installation is a must. This field of Project management is not like any other so with out relevant experience in this field we will not look at your resume.

Responsibilities

• Manage multiple projects from initiation through completion, translating bids into production plans and schedules, and leading internal kickoffs.
• Serve as primary client contact, providing updates and leading walkthroughs during fabrication and installation.
• Coordinate teams across fabrication, design, production, installation, procurement, and administration, including scheduling, logistics, and materials.
• Monitor progress on the shop floor and job sites to ensure work meets scope, design intent, and quality/safety standards; review progress to proactively identify opportunities or issues.
• Coordinate, with appropriate teams, any deliveries, installations, and strikes; manage client deliverables (approvals and documentation).
• Track and approve project costs, labor, and materials, including final job cost reports.
• Mentor Assistant Project Managers and Designers; hold teams accountable for deadlines and communication.
• Troubleshoot issues quickly to minimize delays, rework, and cost overruns.

Qualifications

• Must be local to the area.
• Proven PM experience in fabrication, production, theater, live events, exhibits, scenic work, or related fields.
• Strong understanding of fabrication/installation processes; comfortable both in an office setting and on the shop floor or job site.
• Experience with expediting, logistics, and quality control to keep projects on schedule and up to standard.
• Ability to manage schedules, budgets, scope, labor, and materials across multiple simultaneous projects.
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills for working with clients, vendors, and field crews.
• Proficiency with project tracking tools and standard office software; familiarity with technical drawings is a plus.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred; flexibility for evenings/weekends as needed.
