Job summary

KBR Careers in Houston, TX, is seeking an Engineering Project Manager for the NASA Johnson Space Center. The role requires coordinating multi-disciplinary teams, managing scope, budget, and schedule while interfacing with NASA and contractors.

The position is in person at JSC with a minimum of four days on-site per week and occasional travel. You will drive project delivery and ensure compliance with safety and quality policies across hardware and software components.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or project management.
  • 5+ years’ experience as a project manager in aerospace or related field.
  • Experience with NASA or a NASA contractor is preferred.
  • Experience interfacing with customers and stakeholders.
  • Experience in configuration management for documentation and hardware/software.
  • Experience negotiating with subcontractors/vendors and procurement.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee technical scope, budget estimation and monitoring, schedule development, and risk management.
  • Coordinate with contract and customer stakeholders through regular meetings to ensure delivery.
  • Develop documents and products for human spaceflight including plans, requirements, safety, and hardware delivery.
  • Organize and lead internal engineering meetings to support schedule development and issue resolution.
  • Participate in ISO/AS9100 audits.

On the Human Health and Performance Contract we are at the forefront of safeguarding astronaut health, ensuring human performance, and advancing technologies for human space exploration. We are seeking an Engineering Project Manager at the NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston, TX.

What You’ll Do

In this role, you perform project management and subtask lead responsibilities in the HHPC2 Engineering Department’s Project Management Group representing the contract for the Crew Health Care System (CHeCS) sustaining, resupply, and integration project for the International Space Station (ISS) Program. You provide oversight and lead the CHeCS components of the Environmental Health System (EHS) and Health Maintenance System (HMS). You lead major hardware/software activities for flight units, ground systems, off-site laboratory equipment, accessories, and unique testing equipment and will be required to perform integration of Engineering Department disciplines, Quality, Bond, and Logistics on a weekly basis. You will provide inputs to support multi-year Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Execution (PPBE). Your NASA counterpart will be in the Human Systems Engineering and Integration Division of the Human Health and Performance Directorate.

You Will
  • Manage the technical scope oversight, budget estimating and monitoring, schedule development and maintenance, and risk development and monitoring
  • Manage expectations and communication with contract and customer stakeholders including organization of regular meetings to support successful product delivery
  • Manage development of documents and products for human spaceflight including plans, requirements, safety, flight certification, and hardware delivery
  • Organize and lead internal engineering meetings to support schedule development and maintenance, mitigate potential issues and develop client-friendly solutions in coordination with internal and external stakeholders
  • Participate in ISO/AS9100 Audits
What You Bring

You bring experience leading a multi-disciplinary team, interfacing with contract upper management and support organizations, and interfacing with NASA customers and Programs. You use your experience and judgment to guide and focus the team to meet contract deliverables while working within defined scope and proactively seek guidance from contract leadership when needed. You comply with KBR’s Safety, Health and Environmental Plan, Quality Plan, and all safety policies and procedures, and complete all assigned training.

Your Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, science, or project management
  • 5+ years’ experience as a project manager, project engineer, systems engineer, subtask lead, or similar role in the aerospace industry
  • Previous working experience with NASA or a NASA contractor
  • Experience in customer interfacing role
  • Experience and understanding of configuration management for documentation and hardware/software
  • Experience leading negotiations with subcontractors/vendors and completing procurement
Desired
  • Cost account management experience and reporting
  • Experience with Microsoft Project
  • Experience with Flight Hardware Development processes as outlined in SA-WI-014 and/or EA-WI-023
  • Experience in managing spaceflight projects of different sizes from start to finish
  • Experience in organization of technical reviews for life cycle milestones
  • Previous experience with Human Systems Engineering such as human factors and designing for the product end-user

What To Expect

This position is expected to be in person for a minimum of 4 days per week. Occasional travel may be required.
