Job summary

Continental Electrical Construction Company is seeking a Project Manager for electrical construction projects in the Chicago area. You will oversee scheduling, budgeting, purchasing, and client relations to ensure on-time, on-budget project delivery.

The role requires leadership of diverse teams, collaboration with purchasing, engineering, safety, and field supervision, and a track record of meeting KPIs on multi-million-dollar jobs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 3–7+ years of project management experience.
  • Experience managing large electrical construction projects exceeding $5m.
  • Experience estimating construction projects and forecasting materials and labor.
  • Proven success meeting construction project KPIs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Project and Account Management: manage schedule, milestones, budget, change orders, and purchasing; forecast materials and labor; handle billing.
  • Business Development and Customer Relations: maintain relationships, manage large accounts, develop new business annually.
  • Estimating: determine materials take-off, review scope, finalize bid summaries.
  • Site Management: visit job sites, run meetings, coordinate subcontractors and field staff.
  • Team Leadership: mentor junior PMs and manage office staff; own project financials and outcomes.

Job description

Summary

The Project Manager is accountable for the success of all aspects of electrical construction projects, from bidding and contract award through completion. Responsibilities include outlining and delegating tasks, creating timelines, estimating and adhering to costs, mitigating risks, and nurturing positive client relationships. The PM collaborates with all other departments within the organization, including purchasing, accounting, engineering, and safety as well as field supervision, general contractors, construction managers and inspectors.

The candidate should be open to traveling to job sites in Evanston as needed.

What you'll do
  • Project and Account Management: manage overall schedule and milestones; financial, labor and change order tracking; materials purchasing and deliveries; forecast jobs' materials and labor; billing
  • Business Development and Customer Relations: maintain customer relationships; manage large accounts; propagate new business annually
  • Estimating: determine materials take-off; review project scope and final bid; finalize summary sheet
  • Site Management: visit job sites; conduct job meetings, build trust with field staff and collaborate with site superintendents; coordinate subcontractors
  • Team Leadership: provide mentorship to less senior PMs; manage expectations of contributing office personnel; assume responsibility for project financials and outcomes
What you'll need for success
  • Bachelors degree, preferably in Construction Management, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field or progressively increasing responsibilities in field electrical construction capacities.
  • Minimum 3 -7+ years’ experience in project management, preferably in institutional construction or a closely related field.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in project management of large complex electrical construction jobs exceeding $5m.
  • Demonstrated experience estimating construction jobs and forecasting/projecting materials and labor throughout the projects.
  • Proven success satisfying construction project KPIs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Professionalism, with excellent interpersonal, collaboration, and customer service skills.
  • Outstanding organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Superior time management skills with a proven ability to manage and satisfy competing deadlines.
