Vanasse Hangen Brustlin Inc. (VHB) is seeking a Project Manager/Project Scientist with 3+ years of environmental consulting experience to support our Site Investigation & Remediation practice in Hauppauge, NY.

You will manage investigations, coordinate with clients and regulators, and contribute to a collaborative, multidisciplinary team. Responsibilities include planning field programs, leading Phase I/II ESAs, guiding data interpretation, and producing reports, work plans, and cost estimates.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in geology or related field required.
  • 3+ years of professional environmental consulting experience.
  • Experience with Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments and investigations.
  • Familiarity with New York environmental regulations; OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification required.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Project Manager - Site Investigation & Remediation | Hauppauge, NY

VHB is seeking a Project Manager/Project Scientist with 3+ years of professional environmental consulting experience to support our growing Site Investigation & Remediation practice. This role will provide opportunities to perform and manage environmental investigations and remediation projects, work directly with clients and regulatory agencies, and contribute to a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with clients to determine requirements, develop plans, specifications, drawings, instructions, cost estimates, reports, final bid packages, and related documents
  • Plan and perform environmental site investigations, assessments, and remediation field programs.
  • Support and manage Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments and related investigations.
  • Oversee and conduct, when needed, field activities including soil, groundwater, soil vapor, and other environmental sampling and testing.
  • Interpret field and laboratory data and communicate investigation findings to project teams and clients.
  • Prepare technical reports, work plans, correspondence, field notes, memoranda, and other project deliverables.
  • Assist with the development of investigation and remediation scopes, cost estimates, schedules, and project plans.
  • Support the evaluation and implementation of remedial alternatives and site management strategies.
  • Ensure project activities comply with applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations and regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate with clients, contractors, regulatory agencies, and other project stakeholders on a regular basis.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior staff and field personnel.
  • Manage assigned project tasks and work independently while coordinating with project managers and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Leverage technology and data management tools to organize, analyze, and visualize environmental data.
  • Participate in proposal development and other project pursuits as opportunities arise.
  • Participate in professional development activities aligned with career goals.
Skills and Attributes
  • Working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations, with familiarity with New York requirements preferred.
  • Experience with environmental site assessment, site characterization, investigation, data analysis, and remediation.
  • Ability to interpret environmental data and communicate technical findings effectively.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in both field and office environments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently with appropriate direction.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and project tasks.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Willingness to mentor and support junior staff and contribute to a team-based work environment.
  • Strong commitment to quality, safety, and professional development.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • 3+ years of professional environmental consulting, site investigation, or remediation experience.
  • Experience with Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments and environmental field investigations.
  • Familiarity with New York State environmental regulations and regulatory programs preferred.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification and current annual refresher certification required.
  • Prior project management experience

The full-time annual base salary range for this position is $80,000 to $110,000 if located in Long Island. The base salary offered will be determined based on job-related factors, including geographic location, internal equity, experience, credentials, skills, education, work schedule, and other factors permitted by law. The posted salary range reflects base pay only. Additional compensation and benefits available to eligible employees are outlined in our Total Rewards Program.

Annual base salary is one component of VHB's Total Rewards package. In addition to base pay, eligible employees may receive annual incentive compensation bonuses, spot bonuses, and merit-based salary increases, providing opportunities to increase earnings beyond base pay.
