Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking Engineering Interns to support standard engineering tasks, including design updates and assisting lead engineers across market segments. The internship emphasizes hands-on learning within the Construction market and currently targets students pursuing related degrees.

Primary location is Richmond, VA, with full-time schedule and travel up to 5%. The role offers exposure to safety, health, estimating, pre-construction, field operations, quality and project management

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering or related field from an accredited program is required.
• Or currently enrolled in a related post-secondary program and in good standing.
• Prior internship or consulting experience preferred.

Description

Our Engineering Interns are responsible for performing tasks requiring the application of standard engineering techniques and procedures. This includes standard design of engineering systems, correcting and updating designs, assisting lead engineers with various project duties, and other duties as assigned. Specific assignments and project work vary depending on the market segments. Please see below for information on each market:

Construction

The Construction group is responsible for construction phase services in the design-build process and support for safety and health, estimating, pre-construction, field operations, quality and project management. This includes multiple project execution approaches, including self-perform, multi-subcontractor, construction only and program management.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering or related field from an accredited program required.
• Or, currently enrolled, and in good standing, in a post-secondary education program in a field related to the work done in the department required.
• Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
• Actively involved in campus, community or other volunteer activities or organizations.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
• Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
• Demonstrated leadership skills.
• Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field.
