Job summary

Tenaska in Oklahoma is seeking an experienced EHS/Plant Manager to lead the facility’s safety, environmental, and compliance programs as a key member of the management team. You will oversee risk reduction, regulatory adherence, and incident prevention across operations.

You will coordinate with Operations and Maintenance to ensure safe outage planning, training, and continuous improvement while promoting a culture of safety and environmental responsibility throughout the site.

Qualifications

  • A 4-year degree in Business or Engineering is desirable.
  • Experience with plant equipment and maintenance/operations is required.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.
  • Proficiency with computerized accounting and inventory control systems is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the overall management of the facility as a member of the Management Team.
  • Provide safe working environment and promote safety awareness for all plant personnel; ensure hazard analyses are performed and the Safety Program is compliant with policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Work with the safety committee to implement EHS procedures, maintain records, and make KPIs visible to employees; maintain Safety and Environmental Manuals and the Integrated Contingency Plan.
  • Assist the Operations Manager with compliance with federal/state requirements and ensure timely reporting; oversee training of plant personnel for required compliance.
  • Assist Maintenance Manager in outage preparation, monitor performance, coordinate schedule changes, and approve baselines.
  • Provide oversight on plant water production, boiler chemistry, and cooling water treatment.
  • Support community relations and ensure the plant is a good neighbor; participate in community activities.
  • Survey industry and regulatory news to keep procedures current and practice best-in-class standards.
  • Oversee audits and investigations of the EHS program; assist with pre-planning for maintenance outages and projects.

Job description

  • Participate in the overall management of the facility as a member of the Management Team.
  • Provide safe working environment and promote attitude of safety awareness for all plant personnel, including actively ensuring that hazard analysis is effectively performed for the safety of others. Assist the Safety Program Director with oversight and implementation of the plant’s Safety Program and ensures that it is compliant with Tenaska EHS policy and the local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Work with plant safety committee members to implement plant EHS procedures and practices, maintain plant records, and make key performance indicators of the EHS program visible to all employees. Promote an attitude and culture of safety awareness for all plant personnel that emphasizes actively ensuring the safety of others. Maintain the plant’s Safety Procedures Manual, Environmental Manual, and Integrated Contingency Plan.
  • Assist the Operations Manager with the compliance effort with federal and state regulatory requirements. Ensure that timely and accurate reporting is completed. Administer training and oversight of plant personnel for required compliance.
  • Assist the Maintenance Manager in outage preparation activities, monitors performance, and initiates/recommends corrective actions; acts as a point of contact and communication for outage scheduling conflicts; assists Maintenance Manager in review and approval of schedule changes; ensures baseline schedule and cost changes are approved by the Plant Manager.
  • Provides oversight and advice to the Operations Manager on the performance of the plant water production, boiler chemistry, and cooling water treatment.
  • Assist the plant management staff to enhance image of plant as a good neighbor to the community and the environment. Participate and encourage the involvement and participation of other plant staff members in community activities.
  • Survey industry and regulatory news, reports, and actions, to ensure plant procedures and practices are current and incorporate best practices as much as possible. Participate in monthly Operations Manager and Maintenance Manager calls when appropriate.
  • Oversee audit and investigation of the EHS program with respect to procedure, vendors, and third parties.
  • Assist with EHS related pre-planning for maintenance outages and projects.
  • Complete special projects as required by the Plant Manager.
  • Dependable, reliable and predictable attendance is required for this position.
  • Must possess a valid, in-state motor vehicle operator’s license at all times.

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:

  • Must have a working knowledge of power plant regulatory requirements, providing assistance and guidance to the Operations Manager and Maintenance Manager to ensure that the plant remains in compliance with all of its environmental permits and plans.
  • Must have a working knowledge of power plant safety and environmental compliance processes and the ability to assist with the ongoing technical development and review of those processes.
  • Ability to handle multiple job assignments on a daily basis while meeting plant objectives and deadlines; strong time-management skills necessary.
  • Strong analytical/business-case skills necessary.
  • Strong leadership, motivational, and communication (oral and written) skills, including the ability to communicate effectively to large groups.
  • Innovative and creative problem-solving skill to improving technical, personnel, and business aspects of facility performance.

Education and Experience:

A 4-year degree in Business or Engineering with a strong understanding of the functional relationships of plant maintenance and operations and processes is desirable. Prior knowledge of plant equipment and/or experience with mechanical and electrical maintenance practices is required. Must have strong oral and written communication skills. Must have the ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment. Experience using computerized accounting and inventory control systems is desired. Proficiency with the use of Computerized Maintenance Management System software, is a requirement, and prior knowledge and experience with INFOR EAM software is desirable.

Working Conditions:

Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload, and plant conditions. May act as on-call supervisor, ensuring that after-hours equipment issues are resolved. Participation in management “on call” rotation. "On call" status will periodically be required.

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. Position will require a pre-employment physical examination and random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
