Job summary

M.C. Dean, Inc. is seeking a Project Leader 3 to oversee large, complex electrical projects from initiation through closeout.

You will manage bid and implementation phases, coordinate multi-discipline teams, and drive cost control and schedule performance. Ideal candidates have 12+ years in electrical project management or 9+ with a Master’s, and 7+ with a Ph.D., with strong CPM scheduling and procurement expertise.

Qualifications

  • 12+ years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Math or Physics preferably from an ABET accredited program
  • 9+ years of experience with a Master’s degree
  • 7+ years of experience with a Ph.D.
  • Proficiency in CPM scheduling and general contractor schedules
  • Strong knowledge of Accubid Estimating or equivalent for electrical installations
  • Strong knowledge of project management / scheduling systems (MS Project or Primavera P6)
  • Ability to create project schedules and allocate resources by hours
  • Ability to discuss project costs and budgets with leadership

Responsibilities

  • Perform the overall administration, organization, and implementation of large scale electrical construction projects
  • Manage several phases of a project lifecycle including proposal, design, solutioning, installation, and close
  • Prepare project documentation (requirements, manpower, layouts, schedules, and equipment plans)
  • Coordinate and lead project kick-off meetings
  • Develop Work Breakdown Structure with resources and baseline plan
  • Schedule resources to maintain baseline project schedule
  • Create baseline vs actual reporting of resources as required
  • Provide site surveys, cost studies, forecasts, and progress reports
  • Collect progress data for self-perform and contractor work
  • Monitor project scope, cost, schedule, and variance against plan
  • Drive development and maintenance of project artifacts including shop drawings
  • Coordinate procurement of major materials and equipment with leadership and warehouse
  • Lead acquisition of permits and inspections
  • Assist with estimating and problem resolution with estimators and schedulers
  • Review project schedule with GC and/or Customer
  • Manage data integration from multiple systems for project progress insights
  • Ensure timely completion of punch-list items and as-built drawings
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and quality improvements
  • Maintain positive relationships with project leadership to achieve milestones

M.C. Dean’s Engineering and Construction business unit is currently seeking a Project Leader 3 to lead large, complex electrical projects ranging from $100M to $250M+. Projects include data centers, hospitals, manufacturing facilities, airports, transportation infrastructure and complex government facilities. In this role, you will be managing the entire scope of a project lifecycle from initiation through project close out. You will also be a key player during bidding phase and through implementation phase.

Responsibilities
  • Performing the overall administration, organization, and implementation of large scale electrical construction projects.
  • Managing several phases of a project lifecycle, including proposal, design, solutioning, installation, and close.
  • Assisting in the preparation of project documentation, including project requirements, manpower requirements, project layout, project schedules, detailed equipment plans and field office support.
  • Coordinating and assisting with or leading a project kick-off meeting.
  • Developing a Work Breakdown Structure for the project with properly named work packages and resources assigned to tasks (resource loaded) to establish a baseline resource plan.
  • Assisting with the scheduling of resources on the project to maintain the baseline project schedule.
  • Creating baseline vs actual reporting of resources, as required.
  • Providing and executing site surveys, site cost studies, projected costs, forecasts, cost codes and progress reports, as required.
  • Assisting with the collection of progress data of both self-perform and contractor perform work.
  • Observing and measuring project scope and performance against the project plan to ensure that the project is within acceptable variances of cost, budget, schedule and scope.
  • Driving the development and maintenance of project artifacts, including shop drawings that are required to ensure effective short-term and long-term staffing success for the project.
  • Coordinating the acquisition of major materials, and monitoring tool and equipment requirements with project leadership and the warehouse, as required.
  • Leading the acquisition of required permits and licenses for projects and ensuring inspections are handled correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Estimating, scheduling, or conferring with estimators, schedulers, and other resources that are assigned to the project to identify matters, such as work procedures, complaints, and other related problems.
  • Reviewing the project schedule with the General Contractor and/or Customer.
  • Working directly with the Customer on a schedule.
  • Managing the integration of data from multiple company systems and analyzing the data to draw insights on project progress.
  • Assuring timely completion of project punch-list items, the submittal of accurate as-built drawings, operation and maintenance manuals, and the completion of training materials.
  • Identifying opportunities for cost-saving measures, quality improvements and best practices.
  • Maintaining a positive, assertive relationship with other project leadership, including supervisors, superintendents, foremen, crew leaders and/or other project personnel, to achieve project milestones and overall project success.
Qualifications
  • 12+ years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Math or Physics preferably from an ABET accredited program or 9+ years of experience with a Master’s degree or 7+ years of experience with a Ph.D.
  • Proficiency in the Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling method and General Contractor Schedules
  • Accubid Estimating (Or equivalent) directly related to Electrical Installations is preferred. Primavera P6 CPM Scheduling
  • Strong knowledge of a project management / project scheduling system (MS Project or Primavera P6).
  • Ability to create project schedules and scheduling of resources (work items and tasks by hours).
  • Ability to estimate project work and prepare proposals for Customers.
  • Understanding of critical path analysis of project and resource data to identify potential project issues.
  • Ability to discuss project and resource schedules, costs, and budgets with project leadership
  • Strong knowledge of procurement processes, including evaluating suppliers and purchasing technical goods and services.
  • Ability to create technical documentation, including design documents and reference libraries.
  • Executive-level communications and presentation skills.
  • Team building and team leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of finance systems as it relates to project budgets and cost codes.
  • Understanding of earned value analysis as it relates to project management.
  • Proficiency in the use of automated cost/schedule management systems.
