Job summary

ROI - Workforce as a Service (WaaS) is seeking a Project Geotechnical Engineer to lead geotechnical projects, prepare proposals and reports, and perform analyses to inform design recommendations. This exempt salaried role reports to the Engineering Services Manager, with duties including field exploration and lab testing coordination.

The position requires 5–10 years of geotechnical experience, a BS in Civil Engineering (PE preferred), and ability to travel regionally.

Qualifications

• Geotechnical project experience and proposal/report development.
• Ability to interact with clients and design teams during construction phases.
• Proficient in geotechnical analysis and soil parameter recommendations.
• Experience with geotechnical software and standard MS Office tools.
• Registration as Professional Engineer in applicable states preferred.

Responsibilities

• Direct geotechnical project assignments including proposals, analysis, reports, fieldwork, and laboratory testing.
• Evaluate ground conditions and their impact on design and construction.
• Perform shallow and deep foundation designs, slope stability, and seismic evaluations.
• Peer review geotechnical reports and mentor junior staff.
• Manage project execution from planning to delivery and client liaison.

Job description

Workplace Type: Hybrid / Must reside within a 50 mile radius of one of the office locations: Hayden/Coeur d'Alene Idaho, Lewiston Idaho, Meridian/Boise Idaho, Spokane Washington, Tri-Cities Washington (Richland, Kennewick, Pasco) or Missoula, Montana. Travel to customer sites within the region as required.

This role can range from entry level to mid/senior level. Compensation: $90,000 - $130,000/yr base salary DOE.

Description

The Project Geotechnical Engineer is responsible for completing geotechnical projects, geotechnical proposal preparation, geotechnical report preparation, performing basic and complex geotechnical analyses, and providing professional consultation services to inform project design recommendations. This is an exempt salaried position that reports to the Engineering Services Manager.

• Direct and execute geotechnical project assignments including proposal preparation, engineering analysis, report preparation, field exploration, and laboratory analysis.
• Evaluate ground conditions and understand their impact on design and construction.
• Perform shallow and deep foundation designs, slope stability analyses, and seismic hazard evaluations.
• Peer review geotechnical reports prepared by other geotechnical engineering staff.

Leadership

• May supervise junior engineering department staff, including full employee life cycle.
• Provide mentorship to EI/EITs and help professionally develop staff engineers.
• In conjunction with the Testing Services Manager, responsible for supervising field and office activities of staff engineer(s), and field technicians for assigned projects.

Project Management

• Manage all stages of project execution, from initial planning to final completion, ensuring compliance with contract terms and deliverables.
• Review requests for proposals (RFP’s), develop and finalize proposals, and act as a liaison between clients and company.
• Attend geotechnical special inspection and project kick-off meetings.
• Monitor progress of services and financial performance on projects.
• Attend meetings with clients to discuss recommendations prior to submitting reports. Provide clients with clarifications or modifications as necessary.
• Regularly communicate with clients to ensure quality of services, exceptional staff performance, and address client concerns and expectations.
• Review billing data prior to issuance of final invoices to clients.
• Perform project file maintenance according to approved guidelines.
• Responsible for loss prevention practices in providing services.
• Responsible for reviewing GBA, Terra, and other pertinent loss prevention information and incorporating best practices into day-to-day activities.

Business and Professional Development

• Participate in professional societies/organizations/activities.
• Actively participate in professional and technical organizations as approved by Engineering Services Manager.
• Other duties may be assigned.

Education and Work Experience Requirements

• BS degree in Civil Engineering (Masters in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering preferred).
• Ideally, registration as Professional Engineer in the states of Idaho and/or Washington within 30 days of employment, as well as maintain professional registrations in the state(s) in which they practice.
• 5-10 years of relevant experience preferred.
• Experience in geotechnical report preparation and development of geotechnical recommendations.
• Ability to successfully interact with clients and design teams during design and construction phases of a project.
• Proficient in project management with proven ability to meet business goals.
• Strong background in soil mechanics with extensive knowledge of geotechnical analysis and laboratory testing of soils.
• Experience and understanding in the provision of geotechnical engineering recommendations/soil parameters for shallow and deep foundations, pavements, site preparation, and site mitigation.
• Demonstrated knowledge of geotechnical engineering software, including: BoreDM, Settle3D, SLIDE, LPILE, Google Earth, AutoCAD, Adobe Acrobat or Bluebeam, and the Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher). Experience using CRM software Unanet, cloud sharing software Microsoft SharePoint and OneDrive, and email provider Microsoft Outlook is preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Capability to produce technical material with a minimum amount of supervision.
• Acceptable driving record for insurance purposes is required.
• Able and willing to drive to project sites within service region.

Location
