Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking a Project Geologist or Environmental Scientist to join our Environmental Services team in Seattle, Bellevue, or Lynnwood, Washington. This role will support environmental assessment, investigation, and remediation projects at a variety of urban, industrial, and redevelopment sites throughout the Pacific Northwest. The ideal candidate will have 3 to 7 years of environmental consulting experience with a focus on contaminated site investigation and remediation.

Projects may include environmental site assessments, remedial investigations, spill response, vapor intrusion evaluations, groundwater monitoring, and cleanup activities conducted under Washington's Model Toxics Control Act (MTCA) and other state and local regulatory programs in the Pacific Northwest. This position offers a combination of field and office responsibilities with increasing opportunities for project coordination, client interaction, and task management.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate project activities with client representatives, facility personnel, regulators, and other stakeholders, as needed
  • Coordinate field activities, including procurement, preparation, and mobilization of equipment, supplies, and materials
  • Log soil samples for lithology and prepare detailed soil boring logs

Plan and oversee monitoring well installation, development, maintenance, and abandonment activities

  • Perform and oversee environmental sampling of soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, soil vapor, and indoor air
  • Implement low-flow groundwater sampling and other industry-standard field investigation methods
  • Direct and coordinate drilling contractors, utility locators, and other subcontractors during field activities
  • Oversee remedial construction, treatment system installation, operation, maintenance, and decommissioning activities
  • Conduct environmental site investigations to evaluate the presence, nature, and extent of constituents of concern
  • Oversee treatment system decommissioning and site restoration activities
  • Prepare health and safety plans, work plans, sampling and analysis plans, quality assurance project plans, permit applications, and other project documentation
  • Review and interpret analytical data; compare results to applicable regulatory screening levels, cleanup standards, and natural background concentrations
  • Compile, evaluate, analyze, and present environmental data in support of technical reports and project deliverables
  • Prepare site investigation reports, long-term monitoring reports, environmental site assessment reports, and other technical documents
  • Communicate effectively with project teams, clients, regulators, and other stakeholders
  • Collaborate with geologists, scientists, engineers, and other technical specialists to develop innovative and effective remediation solutions
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Demonstrated commitment to health, safety, quality, and environmental stewardship, with strong attention to detail and high-quality technical work
  • Excellent organizational, written, verbal, and visual communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to diverse audiences
  • Experience collecting, managing, and interpreting environmental data and preparing technical reports for site investigation and remediation projects
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 Suite
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to perform field work in a variety of weather conditions, including lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds and traversing uneven terrain
  • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record required
  • Ability to operate company vehicles, including pickup trucks and cargo vans
  • Willingness to travel periodically, including overnight travel, to support field activities, client meetings, and training opportunities
  • Must successfully complete a pre-employment physical, and drug and alcohol screening
  • Must be eligible to participate in ongoing client-required random drug and alcohol testing programs
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in geology, hydrogeology, engineering, environmental science, chemistry, or a related STEM discipline
  • 3 to 7 years of experience supporting environmental site investigation, remediation, and regulatory compliance projects
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training and current OSHA 8-hour HAZWOPER Refresher training required
Preferred Experience
  • Washington State Licensed Geologist (LG) or Geologist-in-Training (GIT) or the ability to obtain registration, preferred
  • Washington State Licensed Underground Storage Tank (UST) Site Assessor certification preferred
  • OSHA 8 hour HAZWOPER Supervisor Training preferred
  • Experience with GIS, AutoCAD, or other environmental data visualization and mapping software preferred
  • Experience conducting soil vapor investigations, sampling, and screening evaluations preferred
  • Experience with UST site assessment, closure, and remediation projects preferred
  • Strong technical writing and data presentation skills, including preparation of regulatory reports and technical deliverables preferred
  • Experience supporting regulatory negotiations, site closure strategies, and No Further Action (NFA) determinations with state environmental agencies preferred
Work Environment
  • This position involves a combination of office and field work, including technical report preparation, data analysis, and field investigation activities
  • Field work may require exposure to a variety of weather conditions, including heat, cold, precipitation, wind, and uneven terrain
  • Ability to travel periodically to project sites throughout Washington and the Pacific Northwest
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while performing computer-based work and to safely perform physically demanding field tasks
  • Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Range
  • Locations in WA, DC & Various CA, MA, VA Areas-$86,100.00 - $125,000.00 Annually
Pay Transparency:

In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.

Benefits Summary:
