Job summary

Google is seeking a senior Technical Design, Engineering and Construction leader in Sunnyvale, CA to oversee complex facilities such as data centers and heavy labs. You will manage the full technical lifecycle, providing guidance and developing business cases to secure executive alignment with cross-functional teams.

You will lead design and construction oversight for MEP systems, coordinate with Finance, Controls, Security and Workplace Services, and ensure a smooth handover to operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience in project management, business development, or engineering roles related to infrastructure.
  • Experience developing and presenting business cases to executive leadership.
  • Experience in construction to operations handover, including third-party commissioning.
  • Experience in project/program management with distributed teams.
  • Experience with technology product life-cycle or localization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical design and engineering oversight, leveraging a comprehensive and deep background in mechanical, electrical, and control (MEP) design and construction.
  • Act as a subject matter expert who actively challenges assumptions and proposes innovative solutions.
  • Offer technical oversight in sophisticated environments, specifically data center environments, as well as specialized technical facilities such as Central Utility Plants (CUPs), clean rooms, heavy labs, chilled water systems, power/cooling distribution systems, and electrical substations.
  • Lead the initial project phase by creating comprehensive business cases that clearly articulate the scope, risks, and technical implications necessary to secure executive alignment.
  • Conduct extensive collaboration with cross-functional teams—including Technical Engineering, Finance, Controls, Security, and Technical and Workplace Services to gather requirements and validate assumptions during the business case development phase and confirm scope and design BODs (Basis of Designs).

  • Experience working in a global, matrixed organization with various stakeholder groups.
  • Knowledge of grid infrastructure (transmission and distribution) and CPUC regulations.
  • Familiarity with Google's operational standards and project delivery methodologies.
