Job summary

Bunge Iberica SA in Destrehan, LA is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the engineering team through design, development, production launch and plant maintenance.

You will guide safety programs, manage projects up to $5M, coordinate with management, production and marketing, and ensure compliance with NFPA, OSHA, EPA while delivering cost estimates and schedules. This role requires a Bachelor's in engineering and 10+ years of leadership in plant operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, civil, agricultural, electrical, or chemical engineering required.
  • 10+ years of experience in plant operations, maintenance, and safety is required.
  • Experience managing a team of engineers.
  • Proficiency with AutoCad, Microsoft Word, Excel and Project.
  • Knowledge of design codes and government regulations affecting industry including NFPA 36, NFPA 61, OSHA and EPA is preferred.
  • Demonstrates mechanical aptitude and strong problem-solving, organizational, and planning capabilities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and collaborative team player.
  • Experience with complex projects of $2.5M - $5M affecting plant operations; efficiency improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Actively and enthusiastically participate in and lead facility safety activities.
  • When designing projections and/or troubleshooting equipment, ensure safety requirements of the facility are followed.
  • Perform administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, approving expenditures, enforcing rules, and making decisions about the purchase of materials or services.
  • Coordinate and direct projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and directing the integration of technical activities.
  • Confer with management, production, and marketing staff to discuss project specifications and procedures.
  • Conceptually designs and performs feasibility studies for new projects.
  • Develop and/or review/approve cost estimates for projects and ensure project schedules and cost projections are achieved.
  • Manage outside consulting engineers/contractors and coordinate project activities with the plant.
  • Develop equipment specifications and prepare construction bid packages.
  • Complete problem solving and troubleshooting on an as need basis and as requested by the plant management.
  • Catalog and control all Plant drawings and p&ids.
  • Engineering Manager is responsible for Food Safety and Quality – Follow company Quality Systems and implement Food Safety in the design and planning of projects for site development and operational improvements.

A Day in the Life:

Engineering Manager is responsible for direction and management of engineering and associated project activities of the organization. Provides technical guidance and ensures sound engineering procedures, effective use of facilities, and maintains organizational standards. Responsible for modification of existing equipment and efficiency improvements as required to meet safety, commercial expectations, maximize operating efficiencies and maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
