What We're Looking For

This opportunity entails being responsible for the production and modification of design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans and specifications for assigned projects. The role consults with the project manager to perform research, development, calculations, design and delivery; applies engineering techniques, procedures and design criteria for projects ranging in size and complexity; leverages technical knowledge to address design‑related issues; and works closely with clients and team members to meet project schedules. The project engineer may mentor, train and review the work of junior engineers and contributes to successful project delivery for HNTB’s diverse portfolio of clients.

What You'll Do

• Plan and distribute discipline‑specific work, ensuring adherence to schedule and budget.
• Assist with marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation.
• Assist in developing scope of work and level of effort for projects and assignments within the discipline.
• Oversee completeness and accuracy of the project team’s work and guide and mentor the team to overall project objectives.
• Coordinate technical aspects of the project with client counterparts and teaming partners at the staff level.
• Work closely with other disciplines on multi‑discipline projects.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience, or
• Master’s degree in Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience, or
• PhD in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience.

What You'll Bring

• Understanding of how decisions affect technical design and work planning.
• Ability to coordinate work planning and design across multiple technical disciplines.
• Experience preparing high‑quality deliverables on time, within budget and scope.
• Experience with traffic data collection and analysis.
• Experience with traffic forecasting.
• Experience with traffic operational analysis and with software such as Synchro/SimTraffic, HCS and VISSIM.
• Experience with signal design, illumination design, signing and pavement markings.

What We Prefer

• Master’s degree in Engineering.
• 8 years of relevant experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
• AICP certification (depending on discipline).
