Job summary

Blue Moon Metals is seeking a Project Engineer to support mining infrastructure projects in Nevada, from concept through construction and commissioning. The role focuses on cost estimates, schedules, and coordinating with engineers, consultants, and contractors.

You will develop capital and operating cost estimates, manage budgets, and assist with feasibility studies, permitting, and project development. Travel to mine sites and project locations is required as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Mining, Electrical, Construction Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant engineering/project experience, preferably in mining, heavy industrial, infrastructure, energy, or construction projects.
• Experience developing capital cost estimates and project budgets.
• Strong understanding of engineering drawings, specs, quantity take-offs, and construction methodologies.
• Experience with consultants, contractors, and vendors; travel to sites as needed.

Responsibilities

• Support development and execution of mining infrastructure projects (roads, site facilities, water systems, power, camps, warehouses, workshops, tailings and processing infrastructure).
• Develop scopes of work, design criteria, technical specs, and project execution plans.
• Coordinate engineering activities with internal teams, consultants, EPC/EPCM and construction contractors.
• Prepare and maintain capital and operating cost estimates, project budgets, and cost forecasts.
• Develop cost estimating models using market pricing, historical data, vendor quotes, and contractor estimates.
• Support feasibility studies, permitting, budgeting, and board presentations.
• Assist with field investigations, site assessments, scheduling, risk management, and change management.
• Ensure compliance with regulations, permits, standards and company requirements.

Reporting to the Springer Mine & Milling Complex, Imlay, Nevada

Location: Remote or hybrid, based in Northern Nevada, USA. Preferably Elko, Reno, Winnemucca or Lovelock

Department: Project Management Office

The Project Engineer will provide engineering, project development, cost estimating, and technical coordination support for mining projects and associated infrastructure. The role will focus on developing and evaluating infrastructure projects, preparing capital and operating cost estimates, supporting project studies and budgets, and coordinating engineering activities from conceptual design through construction and commissioning.

Working closely with project management, engineering consultants, mine operations, procurement, finance, and contractors, the Project Engineer will help ensure projects are technically sound, cost-effective, constructible, and aligned with company objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the development and execution of mining infrastructure projects, including roads, site facilities, water systems, power, utilities, camps, warehouses, workshops, tailings and waste facilities, and processing-related infrastructure.
• Develop scopes of work, engineering requirements, design criteria, technical specifications, and project execution plans.
• Coordinate engineering activities with internal teams, consultants, EPC/EPCM contractors, and construction contractors.
• Prepare and maintain capital cost estimates, operating cost estimates, project budgets, and cost forecasts.
• Develop and maintain cost estimating models and databases using current market pricing, historical project data, vendor quotations, and contractor estimates.
• Support preparation of Class 5 through Class 1 estimates as appropriate to the project stage.
• Review engineering designs, drawings, specifications, quantity take-offs, and contractor proposals for completeness, accuracy, and cost effectiveness.
• Develop quantity take-offs and equipment/material requirements for infrastructure projects.
• Obtain and evaluate vendor and contractor quotations and assist with bid evaluations and procurement activities.
• Track project costs, commitments, forecasts, change orders, and contingencies in coordination with Project Controls and Finance.
• Identify cost risks, opportunities, and potential value-engineering initiatives.
• Support project scheduling, progress measurement, risk management, and change management.
• Participate in technical and commercial evaluations of alternative project designs and execution strategies.
• Assist with feasibility studies, permitting support, project development studies, and board/investment committee presentations.
• Support field investigations, site assessments, construction planning, and contractor coordination.
• Conduct site visits to verify existing conditions, monitor engineering progress, and support construction activities as required.
• Assist with project procurement, contracting, expediting, and equipment/material selection.
• Ensure engineering and project activities comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, permits, industry standards, and company requirements.
• Promote safe, practical, and cost-effective engineering solutions throughout the project lifecycle.
• Support commissioning, start-up, and project close-out activities.

Costing & Project Controls Focus

The Project Engineer will have a strong emphasis on project economics and will:

• Develop detailed CAPEX and OPEX estimates for infrastructure projects.
• Prepare quantity and material take-offs and validate contractor estimates.3
• Maintain estimating assumptions, exclusions, allowances, escalation, and contingency.
• Analyze cost variances against approved budgets and forecasts.
• Support development of project cost curves and cash-flow forecasts.
• Review change orders and assess their technical and financial impacts.
• Identify opportunities to reduce capital costs while maintaining safety, reliability, and operability.
• Provide cost inputs for PEA, PFS, FS, permitting, financing, and construction decisions.
• Assist in evaluating owner-build versus contractor/EPC/EPCM execution strategies.
• Develop cost benchmarks and maintain historical project cost information for future estimates.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Mining, Electrical, Construction Engineering, or a related engineering discipline is required.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant engineering/project experience, preferably within mining, heavy industrial, infrastructure, energy, or construction projects.
• Experience developing capital cost estimates and project budgets.
• Strong understanding of engineering drawings, specifications, quantity take-offs, and construction methodologies.
• Experience working with engineering consultants, contractors, and vendors.
• Strong Excel skills and familiarity with estimating, project controls, scheduling, or cost management software.
• Ability to interpret technical documentation and translate engineering requirements into scopes, quantities, and costs.
• Willingness to travel periodically to mine sites and project locations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or progress toward licensure.
• Experience with mine infrastructure or mineral processing projects.
• Experience supporting projects through feasibility, permitting, detailed engineering, procurement, and construction.
• Experience with EPCM/EPC contracting models.
• Familiarity with mining project development and NI 43-101 / S-K 1300 technical study environments.
• Experience with Primavera P6, MS Project, or similar scheduling software.
• Experience with cost management systems such as Pronto, SAP, CostOS, HCSS, or similar platforms.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or other engineering/design software.

This position will be based primarily in a corporate or project office environment, with regular travel to mine sites, construction sites, engineering consultants, vendors, and other project locations. The role may require extended periods in the field during major project development, construction, commissioning, or start-up activities.
