Job summary

The Middlesex Corporation, a leader in heavy civil construction, seeks a Rail Project Engineer to support planning, coordination, and execution of rail and transit projects. You will work with project management, field supervision, subcontractors, owners, and railroad representatives to ensure safety and compliance.

Responsibilities include coordinating with active rail operations, tracking production and costs, managing submittals and daily reports, reviewing plans, and supporting quality

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of heavy civil construction experience; rail or transit construction experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of heavy civil construction practices, plans, specifications, and project documentation.
  • Experience working around active railroad operations, track outages, and work windows preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Bluebeam; HCSS HeavyJob, Vista, CAD, and P6 experience preferred.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to access all areas of an active construction site and work nights, weekends, or scheduled rail outages as required.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

  • Track project production, quantities, labor, equipment, costs, and daily field activities.
  • Manage project documentation, including submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, as-builts, and daily reports.
  • Review plans, specifications, and contract documents and provide technical support to field operations.
  • Support quality control requirements and ensure work complies with plans, specifications, and railroad standards.
  • Coordinate with field supervision, subcontractors, designers, owners, and railroad representatives to resolve project issues.
  • Assist with project close-out, punch lists, final quantities, and turnover documentation.

Position Summary:

The Rail Project Engineer supports the planning, coordination, and execution of heavy civil rail and transit construction projects. This position works closely with project management, field supervision, subcontractors, owners, and railroad representatives to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements.
