Job summary

Ontic is seeking a Project Engineer to join our Chatsworth, CA team. The role coordinates the project management office activities, provides technical support, and ensures cost-effective, timely, and quality deliverables through collaboration with engineering, suppliers, and customers.

Responsibilities include manufacturing planning, design modifications to counter obsolescence, tooling design, manuals and service bulletins, and supplier coordination. Requires a B.E.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering is required.
  • 7+ years of aerospace electronic product design, manufacturing, planning, testing and fabrication experience.
  • Ability to provide technical support to customers, suppliers, and in-house technicians.
  • Excellent written and spoken technical communication; ability to write clear reports.
  • Project management skills are highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of aerospace product qualification requirements and FAA/Military certification familiarity.

  • Perform technical reviews of new products.
  • Develop manufacturing planning for products including BOM and improve existing planning.
  • Modify product designs to mitigate obsolescence, including embedded firmware changes.
  • Design assembly/test tooling and shop aids as needed.
  • Develop/modify technical manuals, issue Service Letters and Bulletins.
  • Assist in identifying and evaluating suppliers for new or critical processes.
  • Support Purchasing with supplier technical problems and interpretation of drawings/specifications.
  • Coordinate with Manufacturing/Production Engineering through concurrent engineering processes.
  • Oversee production processes with Quality as required.
  • Participate in controlled document change processes (ECR/ECN).
  • Manage multiple activities to avoid bottlenecks and participate in department meetings.
  • Demonstrate strong oral and written communication and leadership in a diverse engineering team.

Our team is looking for a Project Engineer to join our team at Chatsworth, CA. The Project Engineer position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and guiding the activities of the project management office function while providing technical support for the team. The focus in this position is the ability to coordinate with other departments, outside organizations, customers, and suppliers, to assure that functional requirements are met on time, at the expected quality level and at the lowest costs. This includes working from engineering design documents, specifications, prototypes and/or change orders to determine equipment, tooling, materials and methods of manufacture to produce quality products within cost and specification guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform technical reviews of new product
  • Develop manufacturing planning for products, including BOM; improve/modify existing planning as needed.
  • Modify design of current products to mitigate obsolescence issues, including modification of embedded firmware as needed.
  • Design assembly/test tooling and shop aids, as needed.
  • Develop/modify technical manuals, issue Service Letters and Service Bulletins, as needed.
  • Assist in identifying and evaluating suppliers for new or critical processes.
  • Assist purchasing in resolving supplier’s technical problems, drawing and specification interpretation.
  • Understand and participate in Manufacturing/Production Engineering and development through concurrent (teaming) engineering process
  • Oversee production processes (including outside processing) with Quality, as required.
  • Initiate and participate in the controlled document change process (ECR, ECN), as required.
  • Manage multiple activities and workload to avoid bottlenecks daily
  • Participation in management and department meetings as required.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Ability to participate in a team and highly diverse engineering and program management environment.
  • Ability to participate and contribute to several projects simultaneously.
  • Proven analytical and organizational ability.
To be considered for the Project Engineer opening, here’s what you’ll need to bring with you:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering

Compensation Pay Range

$100,000 - $130,000/year, based on experience
