Job summary

Inmarsat Government in Reston, VA is seeking a Project Engineer to drive the technical execution of government programs, delivering current developments and future functionality across integrated teams. The role involves design, development, system integration, delivery and support, with collaboration among government customers and partners.

You will lead cross-disciplinary efforts, shape roadmaps and product strategy, and communicate complex topics effectively while maintaining a strong focus

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • 10+ years' experience with communication systems.
  • Solid experience with networking (IP networking, routing, firewalls).
  • Deep understanding of modern embedded Linux systems and containerization technologies.
  • Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications capabilities.
  • Proven experience as a leader across multidisciplinary teams including internal groups, vendors, subcontractors, and partners.
  • Deep understanding of system engineering processes from requirements definition to system verification test activities.
  • Ability to drive roadmap, strategy, and requirements management to achieve priorities.
  • Understanding or experience with MIL-STD requirements and test methods.
  • Current active TS clearance.
  • Ability to travel up to 30%.

Job Responsibilities:

Viasat’s Government Maritime is looking for a Project Engineer to help with technical execution of our government programs and captures. This will include completing the delivery of currently scoped developments as well as future functionality and enhancements to the existing Government programs, products, and services. This is a wide-ranging technical role that will require the successful candidate to participate and oversee activities including design, development, system integration, delivery, and support. Part of this role involves interactions with Viasat’s partners, Government customers, internal stakeholders, and other third parties involving highly technical topics. The successful applicant must be self-motivated and be capable of completing complex tasks with minimum supervision and have the confidence and ability to promote improvements and introduce new technologies. This includes the courage to think creatively and communicate outside-the-box ideas effectively. The successful applicant will be driving projects which require integrated teams across Government and Industry partners, balancing stakeholder needs with the art of the possible. Requirements:

Preferences
  • Experience in delivering satellite and mission communications systems
  • Expertise with commonly used communications and electrical test equipment (e.g. Oscilloscope, Spectrum Analyzer, Power Meter, traffic generator and others)
  • Hands on experience working with SATCOM terminals and communications solutions, especially stabilized maritime antennas and/or ESA antennas.
  • Experience and knowledge in HEO, GEO, MEO, and LEO orbit satellite communications.
  • Experience with Government standards and requirements, such as; WGS Certification requirements, MIL-STE-810, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-1275, DO-160, and RMF
  • Current active TS/SCI clearance
