Black & Veatch in California seeks a Project Engineering Manager for Water & Wastewater to lead the engineering delivery on multiple projects, including traditional, design-build and collaborative delivery. You will supervise a multi‑discipline team, mentor staff, manage budgets and schedules, prepare complex calculations and deliverables, and coordinate with clients to drive project success.

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of 5 years related work experience.
  • Must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements, including background checks, drug screening, and motor vehicle records search.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a multi‑discipline team of engineers and technicians on municipal projects.
  • Supervise and mentor engineering staff, identifying developmental growth opportunities.
  • Manage budgets, scheduling, and correspondence with clients and project management.
  • Prepare complex engineering deliverables for large or multiple projects.
  • Assist in research to develop equipment and material recommendations.
  • Prepare complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles.
  • Develop and manage project budgets, schedules, and quality requirements across multiple disciplines.
  • Lead production teams, coordinate multiple discipline activities, and serve as the responsible charge for a project.
  • Identify key client interests and drivers for moderately complex projects.
  • Communicate client concerns to project team members and develop solutions.
  • Provide support for business development or pursuit activities.
  • Manage project changes directly with the client under Project Manager supervision.
  • Lead large multi‑discipline teams to meet project deliverables.
  • Provide input to technical leadership for complex water and wastewater treatment projects.
  • Drive solutions to achieve project goals.
  • Review lower‑level engineering work or assignments.
  • Mentor and manage the performance of assigned personnel.

Project Engineering Manager for Water & Wastewater

Location: Rancho Cordova, CA, US; Walnut Creek, CA, US

As the Project Engineering Manager for Water & Wastewater, you will manage execution of the engineering component of multiple traditional, design‑build, design‑bid‑build, and collaborative delivery projects including advanced treatment facilities, underground conveyance, and carbon neutral solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a multi‑discipline team of engineers and technicians on high‑profile municipal projects.
  • Supervise and mentor engineering staff, identifying developmental growth opportunities.
  • Manage budgets, scheduling, and correspondence with clients and project management.
  • Prepare complex engineering deliverables for large or multiple projects.
  • Assist in the research to develop equipment and material recommendations.
  • Prepare complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles.

Preferred Qualifications
  • PE license.
  • Previous engineering consulting experience.
  • Experience executing multi‑discipline WTP and WWTP upgrades and expansion projects.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of 5 years related work experience.

Compensation

State of California: $111,111 – $111,111
