Job summary

Airswift is seeking a Project Engineer IV for a 2-year contract in Houston, TX and Borger, TX to lead detailed design, construction, commissioning, startup and handover of a major capital project to improve FCC reliability.

You will interface with engineering contractors, coordinate across disciplines, and support brownfield refinery execution, turnaround planning, and field leadership on both engineering office and site phases.

Job Title: Project Engineer IV Duration: 2-year contract Schedule: 4/10 – 5/10 Location: Houston, TX / Borger, TX

This opportunity is focused on a major capital project to improve FCC reliability through detailed design, construction, commissioning, startup, and handover. The role will act as a key technical interface with the engineering contractor, supporting multidiscipline coordination across engineering, procurement, construction, operations, maintenance, reliability, and process safety. This position offers involvement in brownfield refinery execution, turnaround planning, and field leadership across both engineering office and site-based phases.

Required Education

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution

Required Experience

• Significant project engineering experience in refining, petrochemical, or related process industries
• Demonstrated experience delivering multidiscipline capital projects from FEL through detailed design, construction, commissioning, startup, and handover
• Experience interfacing with engineering contractors, EPC/EPCM firms, construction teams, and site stakeholders
• Experience coordinating engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction, operations, maintenance, and business interfaces

Required Skills

• Strong understanding of project execution processes across detailed design, procurement, construction, commissioning, startup, and handover
• Ability to direct engineering contractor activities and manage technical scope, design basis, specifications, standards, and engineering deliverables
• Experience leading technical reviews including model reviews, P&ID reviews, HAZOPs, risk reviews, and constructability reviews
• Capability to manage technical deviations, change orders, RFIs, and resolution of design issues during engineering, fabrication, and field execution
• Strong multidiscipline coordination across process, mechanical, piping, civil/structural, electrical, instrumentation, controls, metallurgy, inspection, and process safety
• Ability to support construction, installation, tie-ins, pre-commissioning, mechanical completion, and field technical query resolution
• Knowledge of project controls, documentation, data management, preservation practices, and compliance with engineering practices, codes, permits, and regulations
• Strong technical, communication, leadership, coordination, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
• Safety leadership, contractor management, constructability focus, interface management, schedule and cost awareness, and stakeholder alignment

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (PE) license
• Experience as a lead engineer with an engineering contractor or as part of an owner’s project team on major capital projects
• Experience with refining unit revamps, brownfield execution, tie-ins, turnaround coordination, and startup support
• Experience supporting FCC unit modernization or major refinery turnaround work during both engineering office and site execution phases
• Working knowledge of company project management systems, project specifications, and refinery standards and practices
