Summary
Under minimal supervision, works on robotic or tooling systems involving the origination, design, and development of new robotic products, tools, and components and/or the modification and improvement of existing designs. Will have a mechanical, electrical, or software focus.
Responsibilities
- Advanced mechanical and/or electrical calculations to verify the overall outcome of the design requirement/intent.
- Attend project kickoff meetings and provide input.
- Communicate directly with the customer on technical issues.
- Assist in generating and managing project schedules, managing project budget and leading engineering team.
- Be assigned to several projects at one time.
- Travel frequent; must have valid driver’s license and full coverage automobile insurance.
- Follow ISO procedures and provide feedback to improve processes.
- Assist in maintaining project binder.
- Initiate milestone invoicing at appropriate intervals.
- Understand and apply industry standards.
- Design and develop robotic systems or tooling fixtures to meet customer specifications or project requirements.
- Conduct tests to assure success during project validation or verification.
- Facilitate design reviews with customers, suppliers, and/or other departments to ensure sound designs and drawing accuracy.
- Analyze test data to assure design meets functional and performance specifications.
- Coordinate and assist in solving technical problems during debug and at customer site.
- Provide technical support and leadership to customer, engineering team, customer service, sales, marketing, manufacturing, etc.
- Assist in preparation of technical proposals with Application Engineer and/or Marketing.
- Strong understanding of systems. Must possess strong understanding of one or more automated process along with application of those processes (i.e., welding, cutting, case packing, palletizing).
- Responsible for generating standard solutions to be used by all Yaskawa Motoman in engineering applications.
- Overall engineering solution responsibility.
- Assist with closed order analysis on assigned projects.
- Communicate project status with team members.
- Assist in preparing and presenting engineering change documentation.
- Directly responsible for generating AG revenue (revenue may be adjusted based upon company goals and market conditions).
Project Engineer Specifics (Irvine, CA)
- Advanced mechanical calculations to verify the overall outcome of the design requirement/intent.
- Communicate directly with the customer and vendors on technical issues.
- Develop SolidWorks solid models of designs and detail the models in 2D for manufacturing at job shops and project documentation. AutoCAD 2D skills a plus.
- Experience designing automation including pneumatic and electro‑mechanical systems essential.
- Experience designing and specifying robotic end‑of‑arm tooling, conveyors, pick and place systems, linear motion systems, print and apply labeling systems, safety systems/barriers desirable.
- Generate specifications that provide detailed build requirements and Bills of Material (BOM).
- Adhere to project schedule and budget requirements.
- Team player willing to work across disciplines.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree and four to six years related experience.
- Good organizational skills, ability to solve problems, strong verbal and written communication skills, computer literacy.
- Negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Minimally supervised work with conferring with supervisor on unusual matters.
- Analytical and interpretative abilities regarding technical procedures and regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups and managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, permutations, frequency distribution, etc.
Physical Demands
Regularly required to talk and hear. Frequently required to stand, sit, and use hands. Occasionally required to walk, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Approximately one hour a day at PC. May occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment
Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, UV exposure, fumes, spark, and heat. Noise level usually moderate. Potential contact with hazardous materials.
