Job summary

Summit Design + Build in Chicago is seeking a Project Engineer II to support multiple commercial construction projects from inception to closeout. You will work with project management and field supervision, develop cost estimates, manage budgets and schedules, and handle submittals and RFIs to keep the project on track.

The ideal candidate holds a BS in Engineering/Construction Management/Architecture, 5–7 years of experience, strong organizational skills, and proficiency with MS Office,

Qualifications

• BS in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related field.
• 5–7 years of proven experience in commercial construction.
• Excellent organizational skills and commitment to quality.
• Proficiency with MS Office; experience with Procore, Bluebeam, and Sage CRE preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct support to project management and field supervision staff from inception to completion.
• Review project aspects to ensure alignment with goals and budgets.
• Develop bidders lists, manage subcontract scopes, and ensure timely contracts.
• Prepare cost estimates and manage project finances including budgets and change orders.
• Develop and maintain the project schedule with timely updates.
• Manage RFIs, submittals, and meeting minutes to keep the project on track.

Job description

Summit Design + Build is growing in Chicago and is looking for experienced Project Engineer IIs. This role plays an important part in supporting projects and ongoing growth. You’ll have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, contribute to a strong team, and continue developing your experience in a fast-paced environment.

What You Will Do:

As a Project Engineer II at Summit, you'll be responsible to:

• Provide direct support to project management and field supervision staff from project inception to completion.
• Perform thorough reviews to ensure all aspects are in line with project goals.
• Develop bidders lists, manage subcontract scopes, and ensure timely execution of contracts.
• Prepare cost estimates and manage project finances including budgets, cost tracking, and change orders.
• Develop and maintain the overall project schedule, ensuring timely updates and adjustments as needed.
• Manage critical documents like RFIs, submittals, and meeting minutes to keep the project on track.
• Assist in ensuring all project aspects meet Summit’s rigorous standards for quality and safety.

Who We Are Looking For:

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related field.
• 5-7 years of proven experience in commercial construction.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Committed to quality and excellence.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, with experience in Procore, Bluebeam On Screen Takeoff, and Sage CRE 300 preferred.
